“Excellent place to stay close to Riverwalk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2009

This is a very nice bed&breakfast near the riverwalk. It's a short 2 minutes walk from the riverwalk and the alamo. Each house has two appartment (one upstairs and one on the first floor) that is decorated as the texan style! We felt like we were in a real old texan house. The owner is very helpful and really us to have a good time and everything we need. The breakfast is included and brought to our front door (between the two doors to get in the room) at 8h30 in the morning and it was a really nice continental breakfast. They have a beautiful garden where we can eat or enjoy by reading. It is a very quiet place and safe environment.

I stayed at Arbor House in April 2009 at the culmination of a two week journey from Chicago to San Antonio. We arrived just in time for the end of the Fiesta not having been aware of its happening when we made our initial booking. Upon arrival we were most warmly invited to a private street party that evening as part of the celebrations. We were made to feel so welcome and everyone was so friendly. We were even provided a prime seat for the parade the following day and a complimentary ticket to NIOSA (saving $24 between us!).
Accommodation is well equipped and most comfortable and the builidngs have a unique character far from the soulless hotel rooms found in the larger and more well-known chains. Breakfast was served in our rooms in a lovely basket and was more than ample to set us up for the day. Location is ideal for exploring all parts of downtown San Antonio
In all, we had a fabulous stay here and are looking forward to returning some time soon! Highly recommended for those who like unique and quirky hotels.

We just came home from 3 nights in San Antonio. We booked Arbor House Suites because it was close to the Convention Center and it was reasonably priced. Did we ever luck out! Great host and staff, location, and amenities, including a bountiful breakfast in a basket that arrived by 8am each morning: muffins, bagels, fruit cups, juice, etc.
Ron Stinson is the owner and host. He, and his wonderful staff, treated us like beloved family guests. He recommended great restaurants and other things to do. He is a 5th generation San Antonian and is full of interesting Texas history and information.
The 4 houses date back to 1903 and they are beautifully furnished. They are tucked in on the corner of two very quiet streets.
The location was fantastic - we could easily walk to all the worthwhile things to see and do in downtown San Antonio.
We look forward to returning to San Antonio to do all the things we didn't have time to do. And we will definitely stay with Ron again.

The Arbor Inn and Suites are beautifully restored buildings which were part of a German-Swiss family's compound in the late 1800s in San Antonio, Texas. Unique in every respect the Arbor Inn revels in the beauty of each season with artistically decorated exterior and interiors for each of the buildings such as the Sabine, the Atasocita, etc. Although each season is celebrated with examples of trimmings for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year, the spring and summer are replete with lovely New Years's, Valentine's, Saint Patrick's, Easter and each patriotic holiday from Memorial Day through the Fourth of July is given special color and charm. Having the good fortune to stay in almost every suite except the honeymoon suite (named for Texas hero-Gregorio Esparza), I can attest to the imposing Colonel William Barrett Travis ground suite to the small romantic garden suites, Lt. Garrett, the James Bowie, David Crockett and of course, the balcony suites such as the Bonham is replete with Texas history and modern comfort--the sounds of the newly restored San Fernando Basilica's cathedral bells can be heard from just a few blocks away. All modern amenities are provided by an extremely conscientious concierge staff. The Arbor Inn is without peer in terms of modern comfort and a true homage to all the history and romance of Texas. I have visited the Arbor Inn at least six times and found each visit to be a respite from the world if only for a day or two. The basket breakfast each morning has a specially prepared fruit compote and fresh brewed coffee in each room of each house. If you visit during the hot and sultry months, a privately fenced hot tub is perfect for the weary ones in your party. My friends and family including my Australian blue heeler cannot give the Arbor Inn more than its due. If you choose something other than the Arbor Suites during your trip to San Antonio, you will miss out on one of the most genuinely precious bed and breakfasts in the U.S. I have travelled throughout the country and look for those accomodations that are reflective of culture, taste, and comfort. The Arbor Inn and Suites will not disappoint!

  • Liked — The consistent quality of the Arbor Inn each time I have been in San Antonio 6 times!
  • Disliked — perhaps some soft drinks as well as water in the refrigerators for each room

This was our first experience staying at a B&B and it was great. I was a little apprehensive especially with our 2 children, but it turned out to be a great place for us to stay. Our room was very comfortable and spacious and we really felt at home. We enjoyed the breakfast delivered to our door every morning, especially the fruit. The B&B is located within a short walking distance to the Riverwalk and to other great restaurants off the beaten path in downtown SA. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the Arbor House has a hot tub, and our children especially enjoyed that, as well as the beautiful garden/patio area. Ron and staff were very friendly and helpful. I'm so glad we chose the Arbor House over a hotel on the Riverwalk. I look forward to going back.

My co-workers and I recently reserved 6 rooms (both big buildings) for a conference we were attending at the Convention Center. It was great. We loved being about a 5 minute walk away from the CC and then within walking distance of the River Walk too. We only moved our cars a couple of times in the four days we were there.

Each of the buildings had a large sitting room where we could gather in the evenings. We loved that two of the three rooms in each building had a balcony to sit on- the upstairs ones by stepping through a large window! The building were built in 1905, and have been renovated to allow modern comforts, but still keep many of the original elements.

Breakfast was great. We had the option of having it served outside in the beautiful garden area, or in our rooms inside a small fridge the evening before. We had to settle for the fridge the night before because we had to be at meetings very early in the morning. Breakfast was pastries, bagels with cream cheese, juice and the greatest fruit bowls I've ever had. Each morning it had at least 8 different types of fruit including gigantic blackberries, fresh pineapple and cherries.

The decorations were an interesting mix of styles, but we enjoyed seeing what each room had to offer. Each room has a king sized bed and a separate sitting room with a queen sleeper. One room had two king beds. When reserving, keep in mind that one of the rooms in each building doesn't have a separate door in the shower area. That would work fine for couples, but it was awkward for two co-workers! The other rooms have separate bathrooms with a regular door for privacy.

The owner and his staff have put together a really great place. I almost hate to share the secret of this place with anyone else, so that it will be available when I want to come back!

  • Liked — The style of the accomodations and the breakfast!
  • Disliked — Stairs- when I kept forgetting things!

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Davy Crockett Suite. We were really pleased with the location and value. We'd waited until the last minute to book a hotel and were looking at 115+ for the most basic of rooms in area hotels - most not on the riverwalk. Then we decided to look for a B&B. Only $139 for the room, and the location was just a block away from the riverwalk.

Met the owner the first day. Real chill guy and very knowledgeable about the area. He was raised in the area and you can tell he really loves this city.

Breakfast dropped between 8 and 8:30AM in a picnic basket - fresh fruit cups (raspberries, grapes, melon, strawberries, blueberries...yum!), bagels w/ cream cheese, muffins and OJ.

Bad stuff? Thin walls, and a shower head that had a steep learning curve. Older house, but that's to be expected - Historic home and all. Older patio furniture, but I could sit in it comfortably.

Good points? Clean room. Clean sheets. HBO in-room. Big, covered patio. Free wi-fi in room. Terrific value.
