We stayed at the BEST WESTERN Sunset Suites - Riverwalk in San Antonio on March 17th, 2011 in room 111.
After spending the entire day and night walking all the Riverwalk area, we returned to our nice, new looking room at 11:00pm. My daughter saw a huge ant on the wall and killed it. I didn't think much of it, but then there was another, and another, and another. There were huge ants on the walls and furniture. We pulled back the curtains to find a bunch more. I immediately called the front desk. A guy named Art came right to our room...I showed him the ants, he said he'd be right back with spray. He never came back! The girl at the front desk said she was sorry and was trying to call the main manager to "ask what to do".
By 12:30 am, she still couldn't get ahold of him. Again, she apologized and said they were SOLD OUT and had NO other rooms to put us in. I told her it was gross and who knows if they'll be crawling on us in the bed since they were on the wall right behind the bed. She agreed, but said there was nothing she could do.
When we checked out the next morning, I complained again to Ashley and another girl at the front desk. They said they were sorry...I told them I wasn't paying the $111 + tax for that nasty room. Ashley told me to hold on and she phoned the manager on duty, John Stewart. Then, she gets off the phone and told me the manager said to take 15% off.
I was irritated at that and said we stayed in a disgusting room with huge ants everywhere and you are only going to take 15% off?
I told her I have video of the room...the other girl asked if she could watch it. She was grossed out and asked if she could show my video to the manager. I told her sure...she walked into a little office right behind the front desk. I thought to myself, why on earth did they just call JOHN STEWART on the phone when he was sitting in his office with the door opened not 12 feet away??
She came back out and told Ashley that John Stewart okayed them to take 50% off!
This manager didn't have the decency to come out to apologize or anything! I still couldn't believe we stayed in a gross room with huge ants everywhere with video proof and John did NOT come out of his office after watching my video and tell me, "I am sorry and there is $0 charge for your awful stay here...and let me offer you 1 free night in the future to try us again." That would have been the right thing to do in my mind.
Besides, the grossness of huge ants everywhere in our room...this Best Western does NOT have enough parking spaces for guests. When we were walking back last night, we watched a lady parking on the public street carrying her luggage.
As modern as the rooms look, they still only have the old-fashioned, boxy 27" tvs....they need to upgrade to larger lcd tvs...especially for rooms called "suites"!
