We have stayed at this Microtel twice. The first time we were on the main floor and found that there was no weather stripping / flange around the door. Light shone in for a good inch all the way around. As the door was located away from the bedroom this didn't bother us overly, however the incredible amount of noise coming in from the hallway all night long DID. We assumed the noise was due to the missing stripping around the door, informed the front desk and didn't worry about it. We stayed again this last weekend, this time on the 2nd floor. No issues w/ the light around the door. HOWEVER, this room was just as noisy as the last. All night long we could hear people walking and talking up and down the hall. These were not rowdy, crazy partying people, just people having a conversation on their way to their rooms. It was as if they were in the same room with us. I did not get a wink of sleep until about 5AM, just enough to call it a nap and then we left. I was very disappointed that the noise seems to be prevalent throughout the halls. While in the room we couldn't hear anything from the rooms on either side of us, but the noise from the hall echoed and sounded like we had invited these people in to our room. My husband noted that the noise went the other way too, he heard conversations and 'intimate interludes' coming from behind doors as he walked down the hall to get some ice.
This is unfortunate and we will not be staying again. The rooms are clean, the staff is great, the grounds are pretty and well-kept, but the point of the 'micro' in Microtel is that it is basically a place to sleep. Very small rooms, clean and for an affordable price for when you are out of town and spending most of your day visiting relatives or sightseeing. Sadly the one purpose of the room is the one thing that Microtel does poorly, if you can't sleep while you are there there is no point.
The staff was wonderful and refunded our money but we will not be staying there or at another Microtel again. I can only assume with corporate building policies that the same structure and poorly built doors were used at each location.
