“Convenient, but nothing special for the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

We picked the Hampton Inn while touring San Antonio for a few days. The location is great for the price, with the Alamo two short blocks away and the Riverwalk just another block.
Our King Studio was not large, but adequate. The bed was comfortable, although all the stuffing in the duvet had clumped into pockets of lumps... strange. New cleaning staff cleaned out our bathroom, including my wife's personal shower products. That said, hotel management were quick to head out to the Body Shoppe and replace the lost items.
Breakfast was adequate, although we did not see any meat items during our stay.
Two thoughts for the hotel: as is often the case lighting is not great, particularly for reading; and with most rooms being occupied by two people, it would be more convenient if there were two suitcase stands instead of relegating one of us to the floor.
The hotel has ads all over informing guests that they change the sheets and the duvet covers for every new guest. Makes one wonder if, prior to this program, guests shared used sheets????

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor, and not facing the expressway.

Stayed here on airline points based on fairly good reviews. The location was convenient. We walked to The Alamo and River Walk. The room was nothing special. Carpet was a little sticky. Shower rod sagged and curtain wouldn't stay closed. Parking anywhere on property was $15 + taxes. We avoided parking fees elsewhere by walking. Check in was 4:00 PM and front desk would not accept an early check-in. They did allow us to pre-check-in and gave us our parking pass a couple hours early which helped. Parked inside the gate once we got our room keys. The place was totally packed at breakfast but there was plenty on the continental buffet. Will probably look at other options next time, but would not rule out staying here again.

Room Tip: Double beds are not queen beds!

A perfect place to be..Just a walkby to the riverwalk, IMAX, and more....About 8 minutes walk to the riverwalk area from the hotel, so it was just nice. Good value, nice services, room kept clean & great breakfast for sure.

Just one comment that I hope the hotel could improve is on their luggage trolley policy. They let the guest hold on to the trolley at their room, which make the new checked-in guest (which is me) difficult to move my 4 (four) big luggage from my car to the room. I've constantly asked the desk for the trolley, but they keep sayinig that the guests already hold on to the trolley in their room for their check out at the next morning (what??). So I went back & forward to my car & room for 3 times.

I think all trolley must be available at the front desk every time, every guest must return it back after they used it. So other than that everything else was good, so 4 ratings from me for that (could be 5 if not for the trolley problem).

Stayed at this hotel when in SanAntonio for large scientific convention. I wanted better value than the expensive hotels next to convention center. Short walk to the convention center, riverwalk, Alamo. I was there the same week as school break, so the hotel and city were very busy. Housekeeping was still cleaning rooms when I arrived late Sunday afternoon. Some guests had to wait for a room (families who wanted rooms close together). Reception checked to see what rooms were cleaned, and got me a room right away. Room was very large with good work area. Breakfast was the standard Hampton Inn fare. Nothing exotic. But good enough to avoid expensive breakfast in a restaurant. Coffee and cold lemon / orange water all day in the lobby was a nice touch (temps were hot this week). I would stay again, and did not have the problems mentioned by other guests.

I have been consistently pleased with Hampton Inn since I started staying with them a couple of years ago, and San Antonio Riverwalk was no exception. I still love the beds and pillows, and this was a rather large room with a good layout. I only wish they would have more low-carb fare on their breakfast bar, as I eat low-carb. Great coffee though! Staff was helpful, as I checked in late at night, and was able to stow some luggage after check-out while waiting for a friend to pick me up. Best part?? Walking distance to all the River Walk attractions. I would definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: Rooms on south side so you can see the sun!

You know how the Hampton prides themselves on the beds. This Hampton has old beds. You could feel the springs on your body. This is the primiary reason why I stay at the Hampton because of their beds, and this time the bed was horrible.

Everything else was great. So if you don't mind that ... Then it was good.

The breakfast was good and the staff was nice.
