“Just Go, You'll Love It”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2012

We just returned from a week at the JW Marriott and couldn't have had a better time. It was just wonderful.

We booked last minute after it looked like our beach vacation might be rained out so we made our plans rather hastily. Because of that, I didn't spend much time looking at the hotel online. I'd seen the photos on the web site, but I just figured we were going to a nice hotel with a big pool and if our four-year-old got bored we could take him to Sea World. Well, no need for that. The JW Marriott is so expansive and beautiful. It's truly a resort, not just a hotel. The pool area is not just a pool area. It's really a mini waterpark with three waterslides, fantastic lazy river, large family pool, separate pool for small children/preschoolers and an adults-only pool.

The food was just wonderful everywhere, but especially at Cibolo Moon. We had the breakfast buffet every morning and loved it. Also, have dinner at least one night at Cibolo Moon. It's worth it. We did S'mores every night and Star Gazing is fun. You'll see Saturn, Mars and the moon. Plenty of activities for preschool through age 12 with the kids center. Our son did the Gummy Worm Chase and Flag Tag and had a great time.

For such a large resort, I was surprised that, for the most part, it didn't feel crowded. We were there Monday through Saturday and for most of the week there weren't that many people around even though we were told the hotel was at or near capacity every night. I chatted with one lady at the pool who had stayed at the hotel several times and said that it usually is that way during the week because there are conferences going on and the business people are in meetings so the pool isn't overcrowded. The weekend, though, is a different story. We noticed a lot more people there on Friday evening, but it made for kind of a festive atmosphere since the dining patio at Cibolo Moon was full, the sports bar was full, lots of people at S'mores and Stargazing and sitting around in chairs throughout the property with their drinks, talking and having fun. So, it was nice during the week because it was so peaceful, but also fun with all the people around.

I really loved the place and can't wait to go back. Thanks, Marriott, for a wonderful experience.

Room Tip: Bring water shoes for the pool area if traveling in the summer. The pavement around the pool gets so...

The San Antonio JW Marriott is outstanding! A perfect get away, this resort would be ideal for couples and families who want to enjoy tex mex hospitality complete with spa, golf course, and river themed pool, slides, and tubes. All the amentities you would expect are above "par", including the restaurants, bars, gym, and patio grounds.

The room I stayed in was your typical business suite, complete with micro fridge, wifi, patio, and up to date interior. The room was nice, and my only small but unimportant complaint would be the smaller than expected LCD TV. I'm not sure if it is important, but I just noticed how small it was.

The staff at this hotel were on the ball, welcoming, engaging, and understood that hospitality is all about experience. Management has done a excellent job with staff. Small notables include: friendly cleaning staff, excellent door staff and very efficient banquet servers. If I had to point out one thing it would be that the bar staff at high velocity seemed a bit off. I'm not sure if it was because it was late, but it just seemed that their "hospitality" was below the rest of the group.

Overall great experience and would definately suggest to anyone interested in San Antonio.

My family of 5 (kids, 11, 8, & 5) loved our stay at the JW Marriot. We stayed 3 nights. The kids loved the lazy river, slides, pools, smores, movie by the pool, giant hampster ball, and bedtime storyteller. We had one room with two beds (very comfortable) and a pull in bed for my oldest son. Everybody was friendly and helpful. We went last August right before school started and it wasn't overly crowded. Would recommend to families looking for a few days of fun. It's not a week long type of destination but perfect for a quick trip.

I was invited by my best friend who was there for work , this meant free lodging for me and I just could not pass this by. My friend came last year for work as well and just loved it so now I needed to check it out. First, you walk into this lobby that is so beautiful with massive displays of art, flowers and cool furniture. I live in Texas and have all my life, this was the first lobby that did not scream cowboys...sure there are the occasional references but overall the decor is awesome.
Every employee was beyond nice and helpful, the food is swank and tasty. Room service, got that too, a platter of local cheeses with fruit, crackers and baguettes. So nice after a five hour drive.
The lazy river is instant relaxation, having a beer at the same time? pretty nice indeed. Overall, great food, lots to do, pricey but worth it for a long weekend or a long week if you have the money.

The JW Hill Country Resort is a remarkable property that is amazingly unexpected given its location in northern San Antonio. We have stayed at this hotel over 10 times in its short history, and it as well as the staff always meet or exceed our expectations. It can be somewhat pricey so plan to use reward points and visit in late May or late August when it's a little less crowded. Perfect for families or the couple looking to get away.

This was our second stay at the JW. We brought our two boys (3 and 6 yrs old) for a quick weekend getaway, and this place did not disappoint.

Check-in was flawless, and the staff was professional, prompt, and very friendly. We took advantage of the valet, as it seemed like parking was hard to come by and not nearly as convenient. (valet - $25/day)

We were upgraded this time to a room with a pool view and full balcony. It was nice to survey activity at the pool, however we did not have this view last year, and I not sure it would be worth paying for that upgrade. Pull out sofa was plenty big for our two boys, and the refrigerator was big enough for snacks and milk for cereal in the mornings. Huge bathrooms. Turn down service in the evenings was a welcome sight after a long day at the pool.

The pool is a destination in and of itself. Despite the large weekend crowds, the lines were short, and chairs plentiful (especially if you get there early). Really wished we could have gone to the adult pool...it looked soooo nice! But alas, we have two young kids. I do recommend some kind of water shoes for the kids in the pool area. It was hot the weekend we were there, and the hot pavement made getting to and from water slides painful for the little ones.

The restaurant at the pool was a great convenience and the food is better than you would expect from a pool-side snack bar. It is a bit pricey but not nearly as high as we expected ($13 for burger and fries...kids were $6) however the convenience made it worth it for us.

Tons of activities for the kids...we did the late night movie in the pool and smores by the fire pit, and our kids loved it. There were plenty more activities, we just did not have time to take it all in.

We noticed the crowds were significantly smaller Sunday afternoon and Monday morning when we checked out. Next year we plan to start our stay on Sunday to miss the weekend rush. That said, I never felt like it was over-crowded.

One bonus: free laundry on the 4th floor. Our stay here was on the back end of a longer trip for our family...so the ability to wash some clothes/swim suits etc... was great. Laundry detergent and fabric softener were complimentary.

The hotel is a bit out of the way, and it takes some time to get anywhere in San Antonio from the JW...but in my opinion it is worth it. We have enjoyed vacations at other really nice properties in the area (Westin La Cantera, Hyatt Hill Country), and though these resorts have their highlights, this place is the best.
