“Absolutely AMAZING”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2012

I wanted to take my husband on a weekend get-a-way for his 30th birthday. I did A LOT of research on Texas Golf Resorts and heavily considered La Cantera, The Hyatt Hill Country, Barton Creek and Horseshoe Bay as well. I am SOOOOOO glad we went to the JW Marriott SA Hill Country Resort. After staying here I will NEVER visit the other golf resorts. There is no need. This resort is perfect.

The service is AMAZING. Every single employee that works there is friendly, happy, looks at you when passing by and says hello, asks how you are, if there is anything they can do for you. Each one of them is quick to please. They seem like they are happy working there and every one of them looks at you in the eye when they pass you by and greets you with a smile/good morning/good afternoon. Many of them remember you the very next day too! The service is most impressive.

The room is gorgeous. There's not a bad view from any room. We had a breathtaking view of a golf course and gorgeous gazebo and water fountains.

There are bean bags and lots of grass areas for family games.

The water park is so fun! The slides are thrilling and the lazy river is relaxing. We are in our 30's and still enjoyed it so it's not just for kids!

The adult pool is BREATHTAKING. It is an infinity edge pool that over looks a gorgeous, green golf course. It's like a postcard. I felt like I was sitting in a spot that they would film the Bachelor at. I am serious. The view is absolutely incredible!

The grounds (both inside and out) are just glistening. They are very clean, well kept and just stunning.

The cocktails are tasty! Loved the chocolate martini at the High Velocity bar.

The fish tacos and onion petals by the pool are to-die-for. YUMMY! I am still craving fish tacos!

We loved the sports bar- High Velocity. Very cool spot to watch a good game!

Downtown San Antonio wasn't very far- 30 minutes away. For anyone that complains about the distance- it's close enough to the city if you want to get to downtown- but it is in the Hill Country- meaning a gorgeous place to relax. If you can't handle 30 minutes to the city-which isn't that far anyways- then just stay downtown. But the resort is supposed to be a getaway place and a little farther out.

On a side note- we went in to town one night and ate at Bohanans. It's exquisite and highly recommended.

I want to discuss the price point- It's a 5 star resort and you DEFINITELY get what you pay for. I thought it was quite reasonable and expected to spend much more than our final bill actually. The drinks and food aren't any more than any other hotel would be, to be honest. I felt like the prices were very fair. It's not the cheapest place in town, sure, but the luxury resort is well worth the splurge! You will not be dissapointed.

My husband is a total golf SNOB. He only plays at the very best places and is very critical about courses. He LOVED both courses. He said the courses are gorgeous, challenging and the conditions were the best he had played at. He has played other TPC golf courses and he said this was by far the best one!

I cannot wait to go back to the the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country! If you are looking for a golf resort- this is it!!!! Promise!!! If you are looking for a Hill Country get-a-way, it won't get any more relaxing than this. If you are looking for a luxury hotel, stay here! It's the PERFECT romantic get-a-way and would also be great for families too!

Stayed early April with my wife and 2 boys ages 4 and 8mo. Our stay was great! The pool area/water park is great especially for small children. Lazy river is fun and the water slides are an excellent thrill.

Rooms are of decent size. We had a full size balcony which was nice for evening relaxation after the kids went to bed. Did some site seeing in San Antonio (Riverwalk, Zoo) both were good times.

Stayed using points which was a great value. Also had an excellent steak dinner at 18 Oaks Restaurant. Had the chance to dine at Smith and Wollensky in NYC earlier this year - and the meal at 18 Oaks was far superior.

Room Tip: Water slides are awesome -but caution the one on the left is in a tunnel and pitch black!

Stayed for 4 days. The only thing negative I can say is it is hard to get into San Antonio proper to sight see unless you are willing to pay about $80 for a cab or rent a car.

Rooms were fantasic. Staff were amazing. Location was stunning. Wait staff the two times I ate lunch were a bit slow and confusing though.

One night the guests in the room next to me were a little too loud. Once I called the front desk, the issue was dealt with immediately.

Room Tip: If you are planning on going into San Antoino, do some research to find inexpensive transportation.

The resort itself is fantastic. The pool with 3 water slides and a lazy river is great place to relax while the kids have some fun. We were there for a convention so for the most part we only ate at the convention dinners. However we did eat at the Cibolo moon which was decent food with less then great service. The bars located around the resort are fantastic, especially the sports bar that has multiple big screen tvs so you can catach any game you like. The rooms are average at best. Not as nice as some of the other 4 to 5 star resorts you can stay at. Some of the balconys are literally only a foot wide so if you turn sideways you are halfway in your room. Overall a great hotel. Not sure about the $400 a night price tag though

Room Tip: Make sure to book a room with a full sized balcony.

We made this our base for family spring break trip to San Antonio - when you walk up to the hotel, you will be impressed by staff, athompshere and surroundings. All the staff seemed well trained to greet with eye contact and a simple hello of good morning or good evening or welcome. If you say thank you. you will always get what I call the Chick Fil A response of My Pleasure. It appeared to me the staff really enjoyed working at the JW. While we were here on a reward stay, we did get an upgrade to a golf view suite - it IMPRESSIVE. The pool area as everyone has commented is very cool with adult pool and whirlpool areas along with the family area of water slides, pool and lazy river. While I would have enjoyed spending more time in the pool area, the San Antonio area has so much to offer you have to budget your time to enjoy the sights and this hotel. Knowing that his hotel just recieved recognition as the Marriott of the Year for the Americas, I now see why.

Now a few minor suggestions for the hotel, nothing big just a few extra suggestions that would have made my stay go from GREAT to WOW --
1. Be sure to deliver a USA Today every day if you ask a guest do they want it?
2.Be sure to refill the coffee boxes everyday
3. It would be great if you lowered your SPA age to 14 or 15 so Moms and Daughters could enjoy family treatments.

Room Tip: Golf view suites are nice and quite

We where there for a convention for 4 days. The facility is large but there is something for everyone, SPA, golf, lazy river, cabana's, sports bar, lounge, shopping and of course Starbuck's. One of the items that stood out for me was the staff . They where very pleasant and helpful. We had a large convention of 1500 attendes but the lines felt like it was group of 50! Amazing how efficient this property is run. The room was well appointed , great bed and linens . During our stay we rented a Cabana one day and great way to spend relaxing at pool. This was only service I would rate below average as we had trouble getting re stocked with refresemnts. The cabana itself was awesome ( a great couch to get out of sun) as well as 7 lounge chairs.

We spent an eve in the sports lounge which had great food and terrific service. Many people have commented on prices of the resort This is 5 star resort and I was expecting to pay 5 star prices. I personally felt the prices where reasonable for this type of establishment. I can not comment on the restuarants as our meals where all part of our convention.

This would be an ideal escape for family, business , couples as well as friends.

PS. This is 20 miles from downtown and cab will run you 60 one way!!

I recently stayed here for a conference and loved the property. It was very clean and new. The spa and sports bar were so very nice too. The biggest tv I have ever seen.

I had two big problems. The first was that this place is about a 60 dollar cab ride to the city river walk. The second was that annoying resort fee of 25 per day. Not sure what that gets you when you have to pay 15-30 to use the spa even without a treatment.

I liked the place but I did not feel like I was in San Antonio
