“I came across it by accident - well worthwhile”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

I was asking directions at a 'gas' station, when the guy told me to go visit the San Jose Mission. Fascinating insight into the early colony, as the Franciscan monks tried to convert the American Indians. The tour, with a volunteer, is highly recommended. He had made his own artefacts, including rope and a bow and arrow. He was entertaining and knowledgable, if a little nervous.

Classic landscapes, with cactus and stone walls, and the ornate church at the end of the compound.

“This place is an absolute Jewel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

I visited Mission San Jose on a business trip to take some photos. The place is extremely tranquil and beautiful. The architecture is fantastic for taking pictures. The church inside is beautiful. I met the priest in charge of the church and he is friendly and informative about the church and the grounds. The Parks Department Agents were also very friendly and informative. This is a great place to visit for the day.

The missions are well maintained with the chapels nicely renovated.

Plenty of staff around only to willing to share their knowledge of the area with you.

“Amazing and newly restored”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

Mission San Jose is a great place. I easily spent 1 hour there. The mariachi mass was okay (a bit long), but the grounds are expansive. The facade of the church (statues) have recently been restored as in just this first week of February. Loved it.
