I was skeptical on staying here after reading some of the reviews but glad we did. As Starwood Preferred Club Members, we stayed on one of the Club Floors - the rooms were perfect, although the walls are kind of thin. I wasn't bothered by honking horns and loud trucks going down East Houston Street in the morning - after all, you wake up in the morning. The one thing that did bother me was the loud horn of the train at night, which woke me a few times.
The rooms were spacious - we had a king room on the 11th floor and a large bathroom area. Everything was very clean. The Club Room was fine - a nice breakfast in the am and snacks throughout the day with wine and cheese and hot appetizers from 5 to 8pm. Met some great folks from other parts of the US during the evening cocktail hour.
I wanted to commend the staff - my room key got de-magnetized. As I came downstairs to get a new key (all I had on me was the key), even though I had no other ID, they were courteous enough to give me a new key. They were also very helpful when I needed directions on how to get to certain San Antonio landmarks. I would definitely stay here again - the hotel itself is beautiful, steeped in history and no.. we did not see any ghosts!
