“Average experience, but good location and value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2011

Nothing about the room or the service stood out as being especially good or bad. The rate was good value, and the location was not too far from the center of the city.

My husband had a quick business trip to San Antonio this Labor Day weekend. Again, the valet and hotel staff service was par to none. Our room overlooked the river. It was clean and quiet. We have stayed here twice and will do so again! So far the Marriott hotel chain has definitely lived up to our standards when traveling.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2011

Just spent a recent Saturday night here and paid a AAA base rate of $101 for a king size room. Of course after valet parking and the various taxes it was close to $150. Either way, I felt this was a very fair price to pay for a Sat night on the Riverwalk.

My first room was rm# 615. I walked in, and thought to myself "this room looks nothing like the king size room pictured on the website". It was smaller with no couch or table area. As soon as you walk in, you are at the minifridge, and a few steps to the left you are are the bed. The bathroom door entrance is a few feet from the edge of the bed. The window overlooked the small pool area 2 floors down. This was definetly not going to do and I went back down to the front desk and upgraded to a balcony room. It was on the backside, so it overlooked the Riverwalk and this was more what I had in mind as the room represents what is shown on their website. I never had any problems with unwanted noise from the Riverwalk or anywhere else while in the room.

The location isn't bad, it's on the less busy section of the riverwalk, and the area appeared a little cleaner as well (as compared to my last visit that spanned the area between La Mansion and the Hyatt). It's a short walk to La Valencia to hang out at VBar or dine at Citrus. And then right up the street are 2 fine dining restaurants, Bohanan's and The Palm. The hotel building is narrow, it's only the width of 3 hotel rooms. I didn't have any problems with valet, it didnt take them long to bring the car around (even at checkout time). The downside is the very small and narrow valet driveway. If you accidentally drive past it, you'll have to circle the blocks to come back around. Also, wouldn't recommend anyone with a larger SUV or truck pull into the valet driveway, would be best to wait on the street if possible.

All the employees I encountered were friendly and the lobby area had ample seating area to wait around in. The free wi-fi worked perfectly fine in the room. Keep in mind that this hotel offers limited services. There is no room service here and it was a bummer that were no vending machines on the hotel floors. If you had the urge for a bottled water or soft drink, you'd have to make the trip down to the "market" by the check-in and cough up the inflated prices for the goods. There is no option to check out via the TV. The flat screen LCD had plenty of basic cable options and all the channels were clear/sharp.

Everything in the room worked fine and the bathroom was clean and decent sized with a curved shower rod. Unfortunately there was no extra pillow in the room, but an extra blanket was found. The alarm clock was pretty basic, not an IHome clock radio or anything like that.

For those who don't care about a full service hotel, I think this Courtyard would be a great option to consider. On my last visit, I stayed at the Mokara and the 2 properties are night and day. Obviously 2 different classes of hotels and significant rate difference between the two as well. This would definetly be a good place to stay for a 3 star caliber property.

Room Tip: upgrade to a balcony riverview room.

Stayed three nights on business. 12th floor room, absolutely quiet. Convenient to restaurants on the river walk. Great place for the business traveler. Recommend adding another treadmill or two to the exercise room. I will stay here again.

This hotel is in a good location if you are spending your time on the riverwalk. Valet parking takes FOREVER to bring your car back. When i checked out i waited almost 30 mins to get my car!!! I also was stuck with a room that faced another building so my view was a wall. The rooms are nice and what you would expect from a marriott.

1. The Valet adjusted my seat and was texting when he pulled up with my car! For the price of 27 dollars a day I hoped that the service would be a little bit better.

2. There was a very stinky dirty diaper in the elevator lobby of our floor (9th) we called twice about having this removed. We shouldn’t have to call twice, that is just nasty!

3. How can they advertise that they have a rooftop pool? First of all the pool is on the 3rd floor(hardly rooftop), second the pool is the size of my car, if that! Maybe 4 people can sit in the pool, but no swimming will be going on at all. Very disappointed since it was 105 degrees that day and we were really looking forward to relaxing by the pool.

4. The ice machines...there are only 2!!! In the entire building! Not only that, they were so out of the way.

5. The room was so small, not that we really needed a large sprawling out room but the fact remains, it was much smaller than any hotel I have ever stayed at...ever, including other Marriott’s.

I was looking for a better experience all around, I usually stay in Marriott’s when I travel and after this experience I am considering cashing in my reward points and finding a new hotel chain to call my favorite. Not cool Marriott, Not cool...

It's in the riverwalk and very closed to all attractions there. The hotel is old however and no free wireless internet. No free parking. But the room is spacious and very friendly staffs.
