Owner description: Built for the 1968 HemisFair in honor of the city's 250th anniversary, this delightful park is a local favorite, particularly the water gardens and the kid-designed wood and sand playground, which includes a castle and space tunnel. The highlight is the looming 750-foot tall Tower of the Americas, offering a terrific view of the city.

“Nice for a family walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2015

I was a little disappointment that the playground was underconstruction. If my toddler enjoyed the water fountains it wouldn't have been a big deal. But we had a nice family walk and he was able to run and chase my husband. We then got paletas from the ice cream man. So it wasn't a bad way to spend a day.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2015

San Antonio has many plazas/parks/squares as recreation area i downtown.
HemisFair Urban Park is one of them.
A peaceful place, where you can breath and relax.
From HemisFair there is connection to Tower of the Americas and Institut of Texan Cultures

“HemisFair Park: Urban Retreat in Downtown San Antonio”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2015

Hemisfair Park is an urban park in downtown San Antonio best known as the location of the Tower of the Americas. The original site of the 1968 World’s Fair, Hemisfair Park is a place to get away from the city and enjoy some open space.

Hemisfair park is comprised of a few attractions, including some historic homes, fountains, playground, etc. There were renovations going on when I visited and when they are completed, the park will likely look even better since, I am told, they are renovating some of the vacant buildings and adding a garden to improve the appearance.

The Tower of the Americas is the focal point of Hemisfair Park and is something everyone who visits San Antonio should experience. The Tower of the Americas is similar to Seattle’s Space Needle and offers some great views from the top. Hemisfair Park is also a connector of sorts to different museums and other attractions, like the Institute of Texan Cultures and Mexican Cultural Institute. There are a few government offices in the area as well and the walkway that starts on Alamo Street will take you past most of these sites.

Hemisfair Park is a nice park overall and certainly a place worth taking a stroll. It will likely be even nicer when the renovations are completed but until then, it’s still a nice place to visit when in San Antonio.

“Cold rainy day”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2015

Visited on a cold, rainy day, so there were no crowds, but too cold to actually enjoy the venue. The Tower of the Americas was interesting. Outstanding views from the top. The outer ring was closed to set up for New Year's Eve. The water gardens were interesting. Great place to take the children, but keep an eye on them. Very easy for them to fall in the water.

“....not sure why this is an attraction”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2015

So, we walked a long "road" through Hemisfair Park to the Texan Cultures Institute. As the site of the 1968 World's Fair, Hemisfair Park truly seems like a destination of decades gone by, including broken down buildings. I would consider it a "seedy" neighborhood, and we actually made a point of being there only during daylight hours. What is with all the stray black cats living under one of the buildings? There is construction going on here, so something is happening. From what I've learned, it will be many years before the construction is completed. There is a lovely landscaped portion near the Tower of the Americas, but I think that lovely portion is not part of Hemisfair Park.
