They are remodeling it. Looks like it's a multi year project. The outside looks completely remodeled, doesn't look even like it was built in the 1700's. Can't even go inside the church right now due to it's remodel. People live in the surrounding buildings around the church so you can't even explore inside those. Streets are blocked off so I had to use my exceptionally good GPS skills (siri) to guide me to another entrance. All and all, it was a disappointing experience. glad to see what it was, but it was nothing like the pictures and scaffolds always mess up what could be a cool picture.
free to check out, ample parking.
Make sure to go to all the missions, they aren't far from each other and it makes for a pretty cool couple of hours checking them out. Just make sure to talk to the rangers for cool facts you might not find out otherwise.
Also, please be respectful. I noticed some people leaving trash there and eating in the church. I know the tripadvisor community is a good honest group, but it disappoints me when I see people so blatantly disrespecting these priceless historical artifacts. *I'll get off my soap, enjoy!
