“Super Clean, Very Comfortable Beds and Pillows”

My Husband and I had a weekend stay right before Halloween. We had a bumpy start when the hotel lost our reservations, but after a few moments of panic, my husband and I were checked in and everything else went very well.
The room was spacious, updated, and very clean. I don't know what the cleaning staff uses, but it has the most wonderful, fresh and clean scent. The beds and pillows were the most comfortable I've ever slept on. I travel a lot and usually have trouble sleeping. Not so at the SWH. I had a very sound sleep.
The hotel is just up the block from Seven Gables and just a couple of blocks from Peabody Essex Museum and all of the Halloween festivities.

We found this hotel to have a very good location but it was quite noisy. The doors to the rooms are not adjusted to close quietly and all hours of the day and night you hear slamming doors. We experienced a weekend wedding and the wedding guests were all over the hotel until about 3:15 a.m. Lots of loud talking and, of course, slamming doors. We stayed 4 nights and checked out a day early to get a good nights sleep before we flew out of Boston. The parking lot is very small and the lobby is also surprisingly tiny.

The concierge (David) at this hotel was so friendly, as was the rest of the staff. I am a clean-freak. This property met my standards. The pub offered decent food at a fair price. Breakfast was always slightly chaotic. That was due more to some unruly guests (children) than the staff.

Salem is a neat place to visit. We were disappointed with the lack of choices for restaurants. The brewery was good. Take a trip to Salem Willows for the best clams ever.

Also recommend taking the commuter train to Boston. It was cheap and quick. Driving up to Rockport/Gloucester is a very nice day trip. Recommend eating at Ellen's in Rockport.

“Can't ask for more - great place”

I've stayed here two summers now for brief trips to Salem with my daughter. Enjoyed everything about the hotel. The indoor pool is smallish, but bright, sunny and clean (unlike many indoor pools which seem dim and dank). The rooms are modern, clean and again, bright. I always splurge and stay in the King one-bedroom suite, so I can put my daughter to bed and then watch TV or surf the Net (wireless, free and always works great). The location can't be beat - on the water, walking distance to most attractions. (Salem is not just for the fall - summer is quieter and there is still lots to do. ) We caught a nice horse and buggy ride right across the square. The Regatta pub has good food, and there are lots of places to eat nearby, including Victoria's Station, right on the water. Staff is always friendly. Never had a problem. Have already booked my next stay in July again. Can't wait to go!

We stayed in Salem in January (the off season) but were there mainly for seeing the town and sight seeing. This hotel is very conviently located. You can park your car there and walk everywhere. It is located right by the National Park Service Historic Park. We also enjoyed the Peabody Essex Museum and a walking tour of the historic homes in Salem. We enjoyed Salem so much that we decided to stay two nights instead of just one. The hotel was very clean and comfortable and the staff was very friendly. As we stayed in the off season, we got a good rate--I thought they could have lowered the rate a bit more as the hotel had only a handful of guests but I can't complain about our rate. Also, hotels that are comparable to this often offer a free breakfast but this hotel did not. I would stay here again.
