Description: Located in the Old London Coffee House, which dates back to the 1700s, Red’s Sandwich Shop has been visited by many Celebrities, Congressman, Senators and even First Lady Barbara Bush. A relaxed, friendlly atmosphere in a historic building is the perfect place to join Salem locals for the BEST breafkast and lunch menu in town. The food is delicious, all home-style cooking at pricing so reasonable you almost feel guilty. Having visited numerous restaurants in Salem that charge outrageous pricing for mediocre food, Red's Sandwich Shop is the crown jewel of the city in terms of excellent food, great prices, and a lovely environment with a friendly staff. They offer an extensive breakfast and lunch menu, Dinner Specials, and a daily $6.95 Special.. And when they say roasted turkey, they mean roasted turkey -- whole turkeys are roasted on the premises and carved for your order. In a tribute to Thanksgiving, their Home Style Turkey Sandwich (roasted turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce and gravy) is out of this world! Wonderful specialty items from Chicken Marsala and Chicken Piccata to Chicken Pot Pie are made to order. Soups and chowders made fresh daily. For a variety of sandwiches from open-faced, to club, to roll-ups -- they cannot be beat. Red's is an award-winning restaurant that received the "BEST BREAKFAST ON THE NORTH SHORE" award for 24 years in a row! I cannot rave enough about this restaurant. If you have only one restaruant to visit in Salem, make it Red's.

“Where the locals go for a reason”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2014

Red's is advertised as where the locals go. We went because it was suggested by several locals. We had breakfast on Saturday and it was so good. I got a red's meat omelette with home fries and my wife got a grilled ham and cheese. There was almost too much meat in the omelette, and my wife said it was one of the best ham and cheese ever. The home fries were actually home fries not the perfectly cut deep fried things most restaurants pass off as home fries. Red's are like the home fries I grew up on made from last nights boiled potatoes and cut by hand to imperfect shapes. Crispy on the outside fall apart tender on the inside. Our breakfast came out so fast I am pretty sure on of the psychics works in the kitchen. Red's portions are gigantic so if you like the same things you may want to share.

Breakfast was so good we went back for a late lunch and it was also fantastic. I actually broke my travel rule of a different restaurant for every meal and went back a third time for breakfast on Saturday morning. Again it was lightning fast from the time we walked in until we were back on the street was 25 min and we both eat slow. It was so good I regret not being able to finish a single meal at red's.

Best advice for red's is don't pass it up even if there is a long wait.

“THE place for breakfast in Salem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2014

Wow! The sweet young lady who checked us in at the Salem Waterfront Hotel recommended Red's for breakfast. Red's is a down-home place to get a great meal; a real, homey atmosphere with great service and wonderful country-style cooking. My husband loved the corned beef hash. I am being redundant with other reviewers when I say the cinnamon bread French toast is really wonderful.
A nice surprise was that they offer Bloody Mary's and champagne drinks with breakfast!
We got there a little before 9:00 am, and the place was almost full. If you come after 9 on a weekend, you may have to wait. It's would be worth it.
