My wife and I needed a getaway over the holidays. After finding Morning Glory online, and vetting it through TripAdvisor, we booked a suite for eight nights. My only wish is that we could have moved in permanently. Bob and Marcel, the proprietors, did everything right.
The Morning Glory is directly across the street from the House of Seven Gables and is close to all the historical sites of Salem. It has a parking lot, but negotiating the old streets of New England cities can be quite a challenge! The walk to the train station to get the commuter rail to Boston is about 15 minutes.
Our suite, named for one of the accused witches hanged in the 1692 witch trials, Sarah Good, was the third floor of this recently renovated, very old home. We had a large bedroom, a bath with shower but no tub, and a comfortable sitting room that was furnished with a vintage sofa bed which Bob said was soon to be replaced. (The wallpaper in the bathroom could also stand replacement.) The bed was very comfortable, and the sitting room is equipped with a flat screen TV/DVD combo and pretty good cable service. There is also a large deck available, but given when we were there, we didn't use it much.
Breakfast is simple but ample. Each morning, there was cereal, yogurt, bananas, orange juice, homemade bread, great coffee, and at least two kinds of sweets, such as amazing chocolate muffins or delicious cranberry scones. Salem law prohibits B & Bs from offering eggs at breakfast; go figure! Every morning, Bob would join us and other guests to discuss our plans and offer suggestions for sites to visit and restaurants to experience.
All in all, this was just an outstanding visit. If you are uncertain or uncomfortable about B & Bs, this could be a great initiation. One of the other guests during our stay noted that she had never been in a bed and breakfast before, and thought it would be "creepy" to stay in someone else's house. But she was convinced by the thrid day of her visit that this was a great way to travel.
