To Bob Shea & Morning Glory Bed & Breakfast:

My girlfriend and I can not thank you enough for such a wonderful stay at your VERY welcoming and warm establishment. It's not easy choosing a Bed & Breakfast from all the many that exist, however, Morning Glory has such charm, comfort & hospitality that we can not resist to return. Thanks for all the wonderful memories! See you again soon.

Sincerely,
Christopher Eaton

My wife and I needed a getaway over the holidays. After finding Morning Glory online, and vetting it through TripAdvisor, we booked a suite for eight nights. My only wish is that we could have moved in permanently. Bob and Marcel, the proprietors, did everything right.

The Morning Glory is directly across the street from the House of Seven Gables and is close to all the historical sites of Salem. It has a parking lot, but negotiating the old streets of New England cities can be quite a challenge! The walk to the train station to get the commuter rail to Boston is about 15 minutes.

Our suite, named for one of the accused witches hanged in the 1692 witch trials, Sarah Good, was the third floor of this recently renovated, very old home. We had a large bedroom, a bath with shower but no tub, and a comfortable sitting room that was furnished with a vintage sofa bed which Bob said was soon to be replaced. (The wallpaper in the bathroom could also stand replacement.) The bed was very comfortable, and the sitting room is equipped with a flat screen TV/DVD combo and pretty good cable service. There is also a large deck available, but given when we were there, we didn't use it much.

Breakfast is simple but ample. Each morning, there was cereal, yogurt, bananas, orange juice, homemade bread, great coffee, and at least two kinds of sweets, such as amazing chocolate muffins or delicious cranberry scones. Salem law prohibits B & Bs from offering eggs at breakfast; go figure! Every morning, Bob would join us and other guests to discuss our plans and offer suggestions for sites to visit and restaurants to experience.

All in all, this was just an outstanding visit. If you are uncertain or uncomfortable about B & Bs, this could be a great initiation. One of the other guests during our stay noted that she had never been in a bed and breakfast before, and thought it would be "creepy" to stay in someone else's house. But she was convinced by the thrid day of her visit that this was a great way to travel.

“Charming, cozy and friendly”

There's a reason this place is rated one of the best B&Bs in Salem. The proprietor, Bob Shea is wonderfully inviting and the building is tastefully decorated and immaculate. I stayed in the Rebecca Nurse Room which is just darling. With a working fire place and a four poster bed that was incredibly comfortable, I couldn't be more content. The room was spacious and cozy at the same time. I particularly liked the sitting room in the common area which felt like my own little living room, since no one else was using it. Breakfast itself was very simple, but it included home baked bread and scones...yummy indeed.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone. That it's gay owned was just another postive in my book.

This place is a gem...my only hesitation in writing such praise is that it might get too booked next time I want to stay there!

“Great stay at the Morning Glory”

Morning Glory Bed & Breakfast

The Morning Glory is an absolute gem. The home itself is beautiful and located on a quiet side street a few steps from all of Salem's many attractions. The House of the Seven Gables is right across the street. My wife and I were fortunate enough to find a room a few short weeks before Halloween. Apparently, there had been a last minute cancellation. We spent five nights in the Rebecca Nurse room which was fabulous. The room is spacious and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was also quite large. Bob is a most gracious host. He is extremely friendly and is more than willing to help you with any questions which you may have. There's a great little place a block or so up on Derby St. called In a Pig's Eye. They have a nice selection of local micro-brewed beers on tap. Their steak quesadillas were very good. If you're interested in an awesome cup of coffee stop by Jaho's which also happens to be on Derby Street. Salem is a beautiful little town with a great many things to see and do during the month of October. I for one intend to be back next year for Halloween and am looking forward to staying at The Morning Glory. Thanks for everything Bob.

Great little B & B in salem. Located right next to The House of The Seven Gables, this inn is quiet, clean and comfortable. Walking distance to most of Salem's attractions. The room was spacious and nicely decorated. It had a private bath and flat screen TV. The inn has a very nice common area withh a computer, a refridgerator and a coffee maker. Breakfast was very good. It included coffee, juice, cereals, fresh fruit and wonderful home baked goods. Inn keeper Bob Shea does all he can to ensure you have a pleasnt stay.
