My husband and I booked the Family Fun Package through the Hawthorne's website. We stayed 2 nights, 7/6-7/8/06. For $136 per night, we not only had a huge room (complete with 2 bathrooms!), but we also received delicious cooked-to-order breakfast each morning, free tickets to the Salem Witch Museum, and discounted tickets for a variety of other Salem attractions. The hotel was located in the heart of Salem, directly across from the Common and the Witch Museum, and just a short walk from shops and restaurants. We arrived quite early in the day. The hotel provided free parking, and the staff was happy to pre-register us and allow us to leave the car in the lot while the room was being cleaned. The Tavern at the Hawthorne provided an affordable alternative to higher priced restaurants, and a great variety of menu items. We had a great stay at the Hawthorne and would highly recommend it.

My wife and I decided to stay there in a honeymoon suite for 2 nights after our wedding and rehearsals were over. We live close by but thought staying in a nice hotel would be much more romantic before we left for our actual honeymoon. We were wrong. The honeymoon suite was no bigger than an average to good sized room in any chain hotel. The fixtures and overall decor of the room spoke of better times gone by. For the price and the occasion we expected more and I don't just mean some free goodies to mark our special day. It was such a disappointment that we checked out a day earlier because we would rather have been in our own living room. Not too many honeymoons should start that way. Really have nothing good to say about this hotel and that is a shame. It is in a great location in a great little city but would have rather stayed at the new Best Western down the block.

My husband and I have been going to Salem every October for about 10 years now. We always stay at the
Hawthorne Hotel. We love the beautiful historic hotel, it is right in the middle of everything! All you need to do is walk right outside. The staff is always very friendly. The rooms are neat and clean, and the views outside our window are lovely. We get the same room every year. We wouldn't go any other place than the Hawthorne Hotel.

I stayed in the Hawthorne for a night while in the area and found it to be a very pleasant, homely hotel. The staff were fantastic: extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were of a good quality, while keeping an authentic early 1900's style; similar to that which I have found when staying in London, England. Breakfast was also very good, and the location was excellent for all of the attractions.

My wife and I stayed at the Hawthorne on March 9th. It is an older hotel with a style more like a B&B than a modern hotel. If you want chrome and plastic, this isn't your place.

We visit the Boston area frequently, but this was the first time we stayed in Salem. Compared to other Boston hotels, I thought the 'Family Fun' room rate was very reasonable.

The room was generally clean (except for dusty blinds). As in a lot of mid-range B&B's, the bath wasn't modern and the grout was discolored. We have found the same conditions in more expensive hotels of the same vintage.

We found the staff very friendly and helpful.

We ate in the hotel that night and thought the restaurant was very good.
