“You think you know a place...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

You think you know a lot about a historical place due to all the information that is now accessible to everyone on the web, but it really makes a difference to be able to get inside the building and hear what people have to say about it. The tours are leader-lead, so your tour will be as good as your leader is. At first it seemed that things were sort of "book-like" but then the more we walked and talked things really opened up. The tour guide was open to any and all questions, and she knew a lot about things that were not "officially" on the tour (like - when did that well show up on the property....). The views from the property are lovely, and it's worth the time (and I had no idea that this is a not-for-profit place that benefits kids and education in the town of Salem) which is really great. Definitely worth the stop! Wear comfortable shoes - there are some twisty-turning-tight stairways.

“Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

Not cheap to tour but definitely worth it. This place is just stunning and the antiques are so beautiful. The area scenery is so calming and soothing. We really enjoyed this. Hint: we didn't take the 5 year old grandtwins in there!!!

“Excellent Site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

If you have time to only do one thing in Salem, this is it. The site is wonderfully maintained. The staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Included in admission is Nathaniel Hawthorne's birthplace, so it's like getting 2 sites for the price of one.
If you can go during the month of October when they are acting out the story of the House of Seven Gables in the house, even better. A fantastic way to learn the story, on the spot!
