“Not much there, ship is a replica”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

We saw the wooden Friend Ship of Salem and immediately climbed on board. Below deck, we saw all of these sketches of the Friend Ship from 1805 and we wanted to know when it was built. Sadly, the original ship was taken by the British in 1812 (I believe) and this replica was built around 2008. Disappointing fact to learn, but it is a beautiful replica.

“Worth the walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

We went to the site just to see what it was all about. It was very neat to see and they had lots of displays along pier explaining the history of the wharf and trades. I would have really liked to see the Friendship but it was under restoration as was the Customs House.

“Your average historic site.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

Most parts were closed, maybe because we were there on a Monday. I wanted to go on the ship and visit the West Indian Goods Store, but they were both closed.

“Learn to Appreciate Modern Conveniences”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

The US Park rangers are so knowledgeable! We went aboard the Friendship replica ship with no agenda, but by the time we left, we had learned so much, including how latitude, longitude and ship speed were calculated and routes were plotted. We really appreciated our GPS devices after that! (One of our party was above-deck and wondering where the heck we were, as we lingered below-decks, but the ranger's explanation was so fascinating, we were hard-put to leave.) A fabulous opportunity for young and old alike.

“Excellent tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

My friends and I purchased a tour which gave a very informative
tour of the friendship mast ship and the custom house and we
enjoyed every minute. The tour guide was very engaging and
interesting. Definately recommend this site and tour during a visit
to Salem.
