“Awful, awful !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013 via mobile

Should have checked TA before going to this! Biggest rip-off ever! Absolutely not worth the price of admission, or any admission! More like an elementary school project than anything else... Outdated, simplistic... Simply laughable! (Not so funny paying for this, though!) To be avoided!

“Skip this So-Called "Museum" for Better Options in Salem”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

I am not sure why this is Salem's "most visited" museum. Maybe people are drawn in by the cool, spooky exterior. This is not a "museum" by any standards that I use. This is an auditorium with overhead scenes that light up as a voice narrates the history of the Salem Witch Trials in a garbled voice in the most cheesy way possible. We actually walked out during the presentation as did many others. Skip this and go to the Witch House, Cemetery and Monument and take a night tour of the area.

“This was not what I expected....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

I expected a museum. It was more like a disney ride that you didn't go anywhere on. In a big room, different UNanimated scenes were lit up as a recording talked about the events of the trials. I learned some new things, but it was NOT worth the money. Part 2 of the "museum" included 3 more of these scenes: original pagan witchcraft explanation, the green faced scary witch, and modern day wiccans...

“A real tourist trap”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

The Salem Witch Museum is a real tourist trap and probably the worst attraction I did in my trips. I am lucky to not have paying the 9 USD entrance (fees included in my Go Boston Card). First, you have to wait for the next session (we arrived at 10h15 and have to wait 15 minutes for the next session). When doors open, you enter in a large dark room where you take a sit and, after some explanations, you will listen a narrator (in english, of course, but you could have access to other langages with a recorded narration) and some wax statues will be revealed around you with light (but fixed statues, no animatronics). You will hear the events of 1692 and the story of the "witches" at Salem. This section takes 20-25 minutes. After that, you go out, pass a part of the shop (with a lot of witch things) and enter in the second room. Here, you will have a person that will describe each witch representations (medieval one, "Wizard of Oz" one and Wicked types). Each wax statues will explain what it means and why the witch looks like that. No action and a little bit boring. After another 15-20 minutes, the tour is finish and you go out in the shop. You leave the place with few informations about witches, but without any emotion. A real tourist trap (the building is beautiful from outside, however!). Not recommended for any, kids or adults!
