“4th of July”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2006

We took the family to Las Paloma for the fireworks, dinner, and a night's stay. It was so crowded that we were bumping into each other and couldn't find a place to sit. The stairs to the slides were green and brown with some sort of fungi. The breakfast was dry and took too long. One huge word of advice, don't go on 4th of July.

Spent 6 nights at the La Paloma with husband and 3 kids 5,7,9. Really enjoyed the beautiful setting and the gorgeous owl that lived in the tree outside our room. Pool and slide were quite nice and there was ample sitting for all of us. Pool area is divided into adults only and family area. While I did feel there might have been pool crashers on the adult side it didn't effect the family dominated area. Security was present and seemed aware of goings on.

One day a bobcat got into the pool area and security was very quick to act. Some of the staff at Sabino's swim up barmade it clear they weren't all that thrilled to be there but I found the rest of the hotel staff to be very helpful and accomodating. Liz and Anthony's service in the lobby lounge was particularly extra special. Had a few minor issues with housekeeping but all and all we would definitely return to this beautiful spot. 9 year old not impressed with kids club but younger 2 enjoyed it.

Stayed here for a weekend while visiting our son and his wife in Tucson, and we got rooms for both couples to relax and enjoy the facilities. The staff are outstanding, starting with the valet and bellhops who will fall over themselves to welcome you, smile, and greet you by name every time they see you. Played the golf course at the "twighlight" rate of $100, which included a cart, two sleeves of balls, glove, rental clubs and 18 holes of one of the most spectacular courses I've ever seen - a steal. The coures are managed by Troon Golf, and they live up to their reputation here.

The rooms and beds were terrific, classic Westin and you'll get a great night's sleep. The spanish style buildings are spread out on campus like grounds that are maintained extremely well, and you'll enjoy the fragrances of jasmine, heather and more in the spring, with great views of the Catalina mountain range. We had breakfast both mornings at the outdoor patio lobby, the food was excellent and the views breathtaking.

We read many of the negative reviews about the pool area, and had we not seen those, probably would not have thought twice while we were down there. Yes, there were many people at the pool - it was nearly 90 degrees, and this is a large resort in Arizona, you will not be the only guests at the pool. We managed to find chairs, even in the afternoon for all four of us, and enjoyed the waterslide, jacuzzi, and swim up bar. It was more relaxed than resorts we have been to in Hawaii, where they ask for a room key to issue a towel, thus confirming you are a guest of the resort, and I suspect there were some college students there who were not guests. I did see a security guard in the pool area and asked her about it, don't know if they plan any changes but the fact she was there indicates they are taking steps.

Overall, a 5 star rating and highly recommend this resort, you will have a great time here!

So disappointing. We went to La Paloma with our two children 8 & 10. We saw that the hotel has a great water slide and thought that indicated a Child friendly atmosphere. However, what we found when we got to the pool was soooo many people, lots of college and 20 something crowds and not one place to sit. The pool was filthy with beer cups and garbage in it. There was little space for the kids to swim without running into people. Worst of all is that while there for 5 days, kitchen staff, from the bar called Sabino, once off work hung out at the pool and did rude and crude things with their girl friends such as sitting on the bar counter, drinking directly from the fountain and acting out unmentionable things not fit for a 10 and 8 year old to see. Lots of biker looking guys. Anyone can get to the pool, no one can tell if you are staying at the hotel - so we also imagine many of the people we saw with lots of tattoos weren't guests - just crashers. We looked for security or a manager and found none.
Everywhere we looked there seemed to be a serious lack of communication and control of staff. One night out in Tucson we met a waitress who had worked here and she said the big problem is once hired one has no idea who is in charge and who to go to with questions. It is a "you make the job" and that is fine for corp. america, but not the hospitality business. We did find the Country Club charming, as well as a beautiful golf course. However, we learned this is managed by a separate company. It was obvious. Such a shame......the hotel is in a beautiful setting but we were totally upset by the horrible management of the property and the staff at the pool. Never again.

Took my girlfriend to the Westin La Paloma Resort in April of 2006. Reserved the top floor with mountain view. First experience was with the valets and the front lobby, they were fantastic. A first rate group of valets and doormen that are willing to do just about anything to make your first impressions of the hotel grand. By the time I was done with check in and was walking back to the car, the front bell hops and valets had already known my name. Front desk clerk was very helpful. The views of the moutains from the huge lobby window is something to experience. They have a great little bar with a million dollar view of the beautiful pool and the catalina mountains. The rooms were immaculate, very clean and everything was in place. The bed is to die for. The most comfortable bed I slept in our whole vacation in Tucson. The price is a little high though, but I think it was all worth it. Would have enjoyed it more if we had used more of the resort services, but I would definetly stay there again.

This the best Westin experience I have ever had. From the Front Desk staff to the Housekeeping staff everyone greeted us with a smile. The rooms overlooking the golf course or mountains are the best!! Can't wait to go back!

Beds were great! Bathroom, towels and robes, were just average -- stiff as a board. The rooms were not decorated in any special manner. Breakfast at the "least expensive" restaurant was $19 for one. Definitely resort prices. Golf was extremely expensive. Area was very spread out. Be prepared to walk a lot! Not easy to get around resort and attend a conference. It was a nice place, but I was not overly impressed. I don't think I would ever stay there on my own.
