Attentive, responsive and friendly -- the staff at the Westin La Paloma are wonderful. A cheerful greeting each morning and a keen knowledge of what group you're with and where you're meeting. Peter Mnatzaganian is outstanding --

My recent stay at La Paloma was one of the best vacations I have had in a while! I went with a group of buddies for the weekend and I was very much impressed by La Paloma. The resort had breath-taking views of the foothills of Tuscan. The staff was friendly and very accommodating to any request I had. The updated golf course is world class! A few of us played tennis at the new tennis facilities and it was the nicest tennis courts I have played on for years. They even had a 3 story water slide that made me feel like a kid all over again! I highly recommend La Paloma to anyone who is traveling to Tuscan or to anyone who wants a nice, relaxing, or fun-filled week.

Room Tip: Ask for the newly renovated rooms. They are top notch!

My wife and I spent a long weekend there and we were not impressed. The service left us wanting. The difference between this and other Westns is that you have to ask rather than have things offered. The culture could be better. The place seemed understaffed and those who were there we're willing but not We did not have a bad time. The golf courses are fabulous. Azul restaurant on the premises was good but not great. The rooms were large but could have been cleaner. All in all we expected better!

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the main building.

This is an unbelievably beautiful resort in the foothills of Tucson. 360 degrees of mountains, gorgeous landscaping, 4 pools with the fastest waterslide we have been down, health club, top notch restaurant, this resort has something for everyone. There is no place else to stay in Tucson!

We were booked for a conference of Garden Writers. Our expectations were limited by our experience over the last 15 years of similar conferences. This venue exceeded all of our expectations. Excellent service from the bell staff at the door with all of our comings and goings, assistance with taxi/van accommodations, and suggestions for dining and shopping. The hotel offers complementary shuttles to local eateries and shopping centers. Excellent. Excellent concierge connections. Front desk staff were efficient, friendly and their follow-up/follow-through on several contacts we made was exceptional. The banquet facility offered the finest service we've experienced with promptness, quality food prep, attention to detail, and cleanliness. The multiple pools and outdoor amenities were beautiful. Even though they prepared us by telling us they were in the midst of a multi-million dollar upgrade, we never saw construction or were inconvenienced in any way. Our room was at the end of the block away from the front desk and check in. Although it mandated an extra amount of walking, we always had use of escorted shuttle service. But we normally chose the walk. Beautiful desert landscaping. And, since we were on the second floor, we had a million dollar view overlooking the city of Tucson. At night, on our balcony, the twinkling lites of the city spread out in front of use were magical. The sunrises and the sunsets were majestic. This is an experience we would rebook in a heart beat. Amazing!

Room Tip: Face south from the second floor if possible. The northern view is of a spectacular mountain range...

Thank you for posting how we far exceeded your expectations for your conference. I’m delighted to read that our remodeling was so unobtrusive, even when you knew this renovation was occurring. I look forward to inviting you back for another conference. In the meantime, come back and spend a few relaxing days at La Paloma. I stay at this property once a week, and was able to stay in one of the newly remodeled rooms on my last visit. Wow what a great job they did updating and modernizing these rooms. Can't wait to see one of the new suites. Love this place.

Room Tip: The new rooms are in the A building with a golf course room. I prefer the H building with a beautifu...

I would rate this resort higher, however when they say it is being renovated, ask them how far have they progressed. I actually saw no evidence of renovation, or it was so little I did not recognize it. The entire complex is dated. The furniture in the lobby is chipped, the carpeting in the rooms is drab, the entire complex is simply worn out. Ask yourself how bad does a resort get before corporate decides to renovate, that's La Paloma today.

That being my biggest issue, I can say the rest was great. Huge lobby, expansive grounds, a multitude of facilities, outstanding number of pools and well equipped health club and the Tucson weather makes this a fine resort. The longer you wait, the more is redone with the renovation, but I think they are way behind schedule.

The staff are great at the reception desk, however don;t judge the friendliness at the door. The Bellhop station/valets are business only and must have gotten their sensitivity training from another hotel chain. It wasn't just one person. Pleasant and helpful are not words I would use to describe them.

The resort is beautiful with a pool view (and outdoor cafe) view is of the Santa Catalina mountains. It is breathtaking and magnificent. The hotel is really a series of connected two story clustered buildings for the guest rooms, all a fair walking distance from the lobby or main portion of the hotel. The grounds are landscaped for the walk to your room, but that could be renovated too.

I would probably return there in the future after a renovation completion, but I would not stay away based on its current state, especially once you know what your getting. There is wear and tear and old, but it is very clean and the rooms are spacious.

Room Tip: Ask for a room they have recently renovated, as of October 2012, that is in one building only.
