“Beautiful hotel and grounds wonderful staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

My husband and I recently stayed for two nights at the Lodge on the Desert in Tucson,Az.
I had read the trip advisor reviews first and was very impressed with this establishment. Every one of the staff were helpful and friendly. The restaurant was delicious. The grounds are gorgeous with a cactus garden and many beautiful flowers. The grounds are charming reminiscent of an old spanish style abode. The rooms were beautifully updated. I understand this hotel has been around since the early 1950's or even earlier. It is kept immaculate and up to date. This was our first trip to Tucson and would love to visit here again.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to a second floor room, which had beautiful mountain views.

We were invited by another couple to stay at Lodge on the Desert---I had no idea what this hotel would be like...amazingly I was surprised and loved it!! We stayed in the older rooms via the suggestion of our friends.....glad we did. The old rooms were cozy, quaint and comfortable. A little romance added with the beehive fireplace!! The food in the dining room was outstanding (we ate outdoors on the patio, near the fireplace). Very nice small pool area. We don't have pets, but I did notice they were allowed. Book it, you will love it! Take a book to read and enjoy the tranquility.

Room Tip: choose the older rooms! Close to dining and lounge!

We loved our stay at the hotel April 9 - 12th. The rooms were clean, the ground were all well maintained. The restarant's food was delicious! The wait staff knowledgeablle about the food adn drink list. Anything we needed or asked for we got. The pool is such a nice area and well maintained. I even left a bathing suit behind and it was prompty mailed to me! The staff had great suggetions on dinner places and shopping and helped arrange a ride to the airport. We loved loved your hotel and the staff and highly reccomend it - we will stay there again if we come back out that way West!

I was given an upgrade since I've stayed there prior. The rooms are always clean and well maintained. The bed, linens, and pillows are really comfortable. And I appreciated that there was a fridge in my room. We enjoyed the jacuzzi the evening I arrived, and relaxed by the pool the next day. It's a gem and I would definitely stay here again in the future.

We stayed 2 nights and got this hotel on "hot wire" deal. So it was at a good rate. For this reason I cannot complain too much about the room. But it was clearly a room that had not been updated. The room was a ground floor at the back. No view except of a group of planters with dead plants in. Nowhere to sit outside and the room was very dark due to the shutters. Also large chunks of paint missing off the walls. Only a small closet with a few shelves that I needed to wipe before putting clothes on due to the dust on them. On the plus side the room was large and pool / garden areas very nice. The staff were polite but felt we treated differently being on a "deal" As the 2 couples checking in before us where given details of the restaurant / pool opening times and other info on place to visit in the area. We were just asked if we were "German!!!!!!!!!!" Given keys and told where the room was and to make sure we parked around the back near the room. Room tips defiantly not room 137 and if you want to be treated like a welcome paying guest don't book a deal.

Room Tip: Not 137, no view nowhere to sit. paint coming off the walls.

We stay only for a night when we got stuck at Tucson. We were surprised at how well the hotel is maintained and how HUGE and pretty the rooms are. Everything has an earthy feel to it. The pool was pretty nice, too. We are planning on going back for a weekend stay.

We wanted a nice hotel in the center of the city, not in the foothills. This hotel not only met that need, but exceeded expectations, especially noteworthy was a helpful, friendly and very knowledgeable staff. We stayed in a recently renovated room, with an updated bathroom, a large, comfortable king bed, and a working fireplace (which we used for two evenings). We visited the hotel restaurant for breakfast (excellent), lunch (great), and two happy hours (great drinks at a discounted price), with fast, friendly service. The only drawback was a small pool, but overall, this is an outstanding place to stay for either a business trip or a relaxing holiday.
