“Little oasis in the desert”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

This is a gem of a hotel. I've stayed in lots of 5 stars hotels and this can hold its own in terms of attractiveness, privacy, comfort and attention to detail. I'm always a little suspicious of on-site restaurants, but the restaurant at Lodge on the Desert is romantic and the food is creative and yummy! Service in the hotel and restaurant was top-notch.

You can't go wrong staying here and it won't break your pocketbook, either!

Well positioned and great big room and bathroom , if you chose the new wing. Also don't expect a view since the rooms face either the car park or a walk way. It's a bit of a put off when you walk in, but get over it for a night or two .
We ordered bar food at the restaurant for the kids which was convenient and good enough. I would stay again

I lived in Tucson for years and drove by this hotel hundreds of times. When I visited Tucson recently, I stayed here for 3 nights. Glad I found it online at a very good price. Front desk is awesome (thanks Chase) and the rooms are nice, large and comfortable. I stayed in the "Deluxe King" room which is apparently a make-over of the "traditional" king room. No traditional drawings on the wall but a streamlined version of the original rooms. The room is large, the bathroom huge (with a tub AND a shower) and a really comfy bed. Even though my room was in the front, it was very quiet at night. The grounds are well kempt and a pleasure to the eyes. Nice pool (too cold to swim) with water falling into the pool from two spouts...makes a really soothing sound. Medium fridge is a nice addition for keeping drinks and snacks cold. The tiled bathroom can be a bit slick, especially when stepping out of the shower since the bath mat can't be placed in front of the shower door (not enough clearance between the door and the floor). Overall, this was a great stay over the Thanksgiving holiday.

It was our first time of staying there and we really enjoyed it. The rooms were large and very nicely decorated and we were in a very quiet room. I'm glad we have found a place that is convenient for shopping and near some good restaurants. It was so much better than staying where there is lots of traffic and noise all the time plus the atmosphere was very relaxing.

We stayed here in October for the Tennis Championships. Most everyone was staying at the DoubleTree but we wanted a more authentic Tucson experience with charm (and quiet) Thats exactly what we got! This hotel is nicely maintained throughout, the rooms were well appointed, comfortable & clean. It has alot of charm & the pool area is relaxing. It's located in a good neighborhood & not far from shopping, activities, etc. We had breakfast & 1 dinner at the hotel restaurant.. the food was very good. Service throughout the hotel was also very good! If we visit Tucson again we would definitely stay here.

Adobe's are my favorite form of building material, and The Lodge on the Desert represents the very best of that character vintage. Beautifully maintained, wonderful HUGE pillows on the beds. Get a room with a fireplace if you're into sipping wine in a comfortable chair, and reading ... or whatever. The restaurant has wonderfully prepared breakfast's & dinners and ALL the staff I came into contact with were smiling. Not too often that happens these days. You'll also enjoy meandering the pathways after a tough day of meetings.

Room Tip: Rooms on the East side are quiter.

After a good experience (not great) in August, we stayed again in late November. This time we were in a newer unit, and it was unbelievably quiet and calm. After reading some comments on TA about the newer units being less charming, we were curious. We found them every bit as charming, and the HUGE additional space in the bathroom and bedroom was wonderful! Internet access worked perfectly this time. and everything was pristine. The only challenge was finding the entry to the courtyard in the dark; most entries from the parking lot are well-lit but ours was not (accessing rooms such as 216-217). We are avid walkers and we found some wonderful, quiet streets around the corner, pretty neighborhoods. Most importantly, it was an easy 7-minute ride to campus!

Room Tip: away from Alvernon and the newer units are very spacious but equally charming.
