“Calm environment and convenient location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

Stayed here three nights and except for housekeeping it was an excellent experience. The staff is truly welcoming and they deserve five stars! The room was in a one-story building, which was accessed through paths that weaved through pretty and peaceful gardens. Given the fact that I stayed during back-to campus week, the Lodge was surprisingly quiet. The king bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was small (the older section of the Lodge) but quite serviceable. The only negatives were about housekeeping issues. For example, the loudest late-night noise actually came from the housekeeping staff outside the buildings! Little things became increasingly disappointing: empty kleenex box, forgotten coffee (which was excellent the previous night), forgotten shampoo, piles of dirty linen on the porch chair. I did call the front desk, and someone immediately brought over kleenex - but having to get up at 5:30 the next morning the coffee would have been nice! I was told the Lodge usually has room service available (a nice feature after a long work day), but there were no menus, no one answered the phone at the restaurant...so I was able to access numerous restaurants and Trader Joe's not too far away!

We just stayed at this nice Hotel in Tucson. I had read reviews on TripAdvisor , and they were are 100 percent right on. The location was perfect for the proximity to the University. It is quiet and serene , with a nice pool and spa to relax. The dining option is great. We had breakfast and Dinner , and loved the food.
This will be our place , while visiting our Son for the next few years at Tucson.

Room Tip: I like our location in the front building, room 261

Lodge on the Desert ran a special rate, so we decided to do a quick overnight to give it a try and get a break from Phoenix. Our room was on the first floor with a small patio that opened towards the pool. Although spacious and comfortable, the King room had minimal decor and was fairly blah. The bathroom was large, had double sinks along with a separate shower and tub. Lighting was excellent in the bathroom, not so much in the room. The bathroom needed more places to hang towels, etc. Robes and safe were nice additions. Staff was wonderful.

If one needs wi-fi, do NOT rely on the hotel connection. We were unable to get connected anywhere on property (we forgot our Mi-Fi this trip - never again!) Since I had a notebook, we were offered an ethernet cable from the front desk, but declined as connection was not critical for a one night stay.

Dinner and breakfast in the hotel dining facility was excellent.

We did enjoy our stay and would recommend this property, but if pricing was equal, we would likely pick the Arizona Inn over Lodge on the Desert.

We have made countless trips to Tucson and will never stay at any other hotel again. The Lodge on the Desert has all the amenities of an upscale resort with an affordable price tag! The staff was friendly and accomodating. The rooms were plush and comfortable. The hotel was right in the middle of all of our travel's so getting to where we needed was never a long commute. We could not have been more pleased!

This hotel is a great value. The rooms are nice and clean and the exterior of the lodge is very manicured. The customer service was very professional and helpful. I would recommend this lodge to anyone that is looking for a nice place with a good value for your money. i would say to the staff and management keep up the good work because this will definetely make people want to come and also return.

We chose this location based on a recommendation in a travel guide and we weren't disappointed. Price was reasonable, and the charm of the place was really nice. We stayed in one of the buildings toward the back which I believe would be one of the "newer" ones. The room was rather large, and well appointed with a flat-screen TV, nice furnishings, and comfortable beds. The bathroom was huge compared to most hotel bathrooms I've seen - with a nice, glassed-in shower. One quibble was that it took forever to get hot water in the shower, and then once it came it was so hot it was hard to get it cooled down again. The pool was beautiful with two waterfalls, and situated in a beautiful courtyard. The hotel provides bags of ice as well as a couple of complimentary water bottles in the fridge- another nice touch.

Room Tip: In reading the reviews, it sounds like the "newer" buildings (like we evidently had) have...

This is one of the best deals in Tucson. Rooms are not very cheap but the price/quality ratio is about right. Friendly people, good service and the food is just fabulous. We ate here every night and morning, the chef even made us something on demand. The huevos rancheros are nice for breakfast. Pool area is relaxed and you can order some drinks if you'd like. There is flavoured iced water in the small library where you ca read the latest newspaper as well. Great location between downtown and the eastern section of the Saguaro NP.
