The Lodge is a unique, historic property dating from the 1930s and constructed of adobe. It has the ambiance of that period with thick walls, hacienda layout, winding paths through xeriscaped grounds. If you love traditional and regional architecture this will delight. The rooms are very spacious (ours was about 15 x 26 for the main room plus a dressing area, large walk-in closet, and bathroom with separate
shower stall and tub). Appointments include luxury, top-of-the line mattresses, comfortable seating, gas-fire, and the usual amenities. Most of the rooms are at ground level but there are some on a second level (as ours was). Each room appears to have a private patio or verandah which extend the sense of being in a private home rather than
a hotel. We dined twice at the hotel restaurant and felt that the
service and food were very good. The staff were friendly and helpful. This is not a resort/spa kind of place, nor filled with high-end furniture and fittings. In fact, the furniture looks locally made, and
this adds to the lodge's charm. I highly recommend this lodge for people who enjoy an inviting, understated, and authentic place to stay.
