The property is not without its charm as others have stated. The grounds are lovely and the historic value of the place cannot be denied.

The room I was given (#11) was spacious, but the carpet seemed like it was original from the 1930s. The walls were cracked. The windows (as others have remarked) are so thin that you get to hear every car that drives down the road out front and it is a busy street.

I booked a room at the last minute as always and this was the closest place I could find to U of A that had a vacancy. I probably would not stay here again until they make some major improvements.

The Lodge is a unique, historic property dating from the 1930s and constructed of adobe. It has the ambiance of that period with thick walls, hacienda layout, winding paths through xeriscaped grounds. If you love traditional and regional architecture this will delight. The rooms are very spacious (ours was about 15 x 26 for the main room plus a dressing area, large walk-in closet, and bathroom with separate
shower stall and tub). Appointments include luxury, top-of-the line mattresses, comfortable seating, gas-fire, and the usual amenities. Most of the rooms are at ground level but there are some on a second level (as ours was). Each room appears to have a private patio or verandah which extend the sense of being in a private home rather than
a hotel. We dined twice at the hotel restaurant and felt that the
service and food were very good. The staff were friendly and helpful. This is not a resort/spa kind of place, nor filled with high-end furniture and fittings. In fact, the furniture looks locally made, and
this adds to the lodge's charm. I highly recommend this lodge for people who enjoy an inviting, understated, and authentic place to stay.

When we normally stay in Tucson, we rent an apartment for the week. It's cheaper than getting a hotel for everyone. This last trip however, we decided to stay at the Lodge. I had seen the reviews of the place and thought... ok, lets try it. When we arrived, it was very clear that there was some sort of construction going on beside the hotel. The clerk told us that they are adding onto the hotel, however if there were any issues; to let them know and they will attempt to resolve them.

When we got to the room, it was so rustic and comforting. It is a true hacienda style hotel, so if you are looking for something new, modern and plain... do NOT stay here. It was quaint, beautiful and cozy. We had a very comfortable bed with a fireplace at the end of the room and a little patio out front to sit and have coffee at.

The grounds were beautiful and well kept. I felt as though we had gone back in time at this little hotel. The staff were gracious and more than willing to accomodate if we had any issues.

I noticed that there was a review on here that said there was noise coming from the room above them..... I am not sure what this person was talking about as it is a ONE LEVEL building. There is no second level.

I have attached a few pictures, but they are a little grainy. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask.

“A Surprise in the Desert”

The Lodge on the Desert

The deluxe double casita was by far one of the nicest rooms we enjoyed during our visit to Arizona. The room was large and very clean. The beds and pillows were too comfortable for words. The ample sitting area and gas fireplace added the right amount of comfort and warmth. The grounds were manicured to perfection with the exception of part of the property being separated by temporary metal construction fencing. While off street parking was provided it seemed the parking lot was in the process of being worked on. Our casita, located on the back of the property, was very quiet without any noise interference from the busy street traffic.

Smack dab in the center of town, this historic hotel offers a quaint hideaway from the strip-mall, shiny mentality of major hotel chains. We checked in with some trepidation because of the major construction in progress along the front walk of the hotel. Not to worry; the staff
was accommodating in every way and the noise level was kept to a minimum during our entire Thanksgiving week stay. Our room seemed to have aged gracefully; it was well-appointed and clean with the convenience of a modern bathroom. The bedding was abundant and comforting. We stayed here with two children who were treated with as much kindness and respect as the adults. The chef serves amazing food,
creative and very fresh, for three meals a day. I regret that the bar closes at the early hour of 9pm; the outdoor patios and fireplaces make perfect places to sit and chat into the night after a day out exploring the desert. I would certainly stay there again without hesitation.
