“Nasty attitude of check in staff!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2010

When my family and I arrived and went to check in, things started to go wrong, we were suppose to have had a package, but they couldn't seem to find it in the computer, even though we booked the deal directly with Loews. Like other folks have said, charges and more charges, they probably would have charged for air if they could have found a way to word it. The room smelled like old gym socks, was dated and lots of mold and mildew in the shower. This is the kid of place you would book for you mother inlaw (if you didn't like her), as I felt cheated by the high rates, poor product, and the grumpy front desk. I think the front desk staff made employees of the month for all the other resorts in town.

I went to Loews Tucson for a weekend getaway. This sums it up for me.

Pros:
1) Best location in all of Tucson. Hotel is set against the Catalina Mountains.
2) Scenic Hiking Trails directly from the hotel.
3) Staff and service were great. Pool area is excellent.
4) Price was right, good value
5) Hotel grounds were kept very natural, a true Sonoran desert experience.
6) Each room has a balcony.

Cons:
1) Beds are not soft.
2) Much larger hotel than I expected.
3) Too many kids in pool area
4) Restaurant and pool food was average.
5) Bathroom & Tub aren't that great

Overall, I give this hotel an excellent review. The location is prime and the views are stunning. The pool is heated and nice. I paid a fair price and it was an excellent value. My only issue was the beds, and a strange bathtub / shower combo they should have done differently. I would rate this hotel a perfect, if it wasn't for those two issues. They have to fix the beds.

There is no question about it, Loews is one of Tucson's best.

was in town for a conference, thought from the website the Ventana was an immaculate, high end resort, unfortunately the place was very dated, musty smell in the room. Higher cost room with deluxe view were of a tree, no desert vista as advertised. Spa was a bit of a disappointment, treatment rooms very generic, bathroom in the spa very dirty, seems the place was very lived in and needs a makeover. This is a very average resort, not terrible, but no way warrants the high cost of the room. Website definitely makes it look much more sophisticated.

I stayed for 8 days-service, cleanliness, staff, and surroundings all first rate. In the restaurant, unless you are very hungry, buy one meal and share. In the bar, my waiter was Laurie (male)?-or something like that. I told him I was not very hungry-he suggested a kids hamburger-great.

Two very minor matters. The gift shops had very linited hours and the business centre seemed to be closed all of the time. Also, $10.00 per day for in-room wi-fi was too much! I think with a bit of persuasion, they would waive this fee?

The buildings are relatively old-as in 50's or 60's. The rooms, batrhrooms and Ac/heat have all been updated and are fine.

Yes, I would definitely stay there again!

I've been doing business and vacations in AZ for 20 years and one of the more depressing elements has been the gradual absorbing of the resorts into the 'burbs. On one hand this does mean that you are within walking distance of a range of options, on the other hand its not quite a resort any longer.

Loews is a pleasant exception. Built into the mouth of a canyon in the NE corner of Tucson into the Catalina Mountains it has a tremendous set of views and is far enough away from most everything so as to feel remote, though it's only a couple of miles for any food option you could imagine. It's 25 odd years old and has been remodeled enough so as keep from feeling dated, but old enough to be comfortable. I've stayed here before for business which also worked out well.

We got a great rate on two rooms which we paid ahead by a couple of months. Our rooms had excellent views south and both rooms were large with good balconies. Coffee and teas was free via one of the pod machines, which should replace all the sad little Mr Coffee makers across the world. Pool was nice, with a view of the mountains, there was a second pool that was down by the fitness room that we used for laps. Fitness was a $10 charge per room, but it was a good facility. Internet was free, if slow, in the lobby, room was charged. They charge for parking, but are upfront about telling you its the same rate if you park yourself or they valet.

The staff is very pleasant without being forward. And were helpful in questions regarding the area and directions. There is a very good set of hiking trails near the hotel that are recommended. Good for a family outing, though wouldn't do it in summer.

We ate at both restaurants and though not cheap, they're on par for what you would pay at any other resort in the area. Generally we out for breakfast down the road to a Good Egg or one of the bagel places.

Having read a number of reviews that were negative I was some nervous but all in all it was a most excellent stay. Comment on the negatives: I don't care for staying in Super 8's and I research the area for restaurants before going.

Excellent location-nearby to Sabino Canyon and Ventana Hiking Trail-the rooms are 450 sq ft with mountain or city views. Out on the balcony the one thing I noticed was peace and quiet-I don't know when I've had a more relaxing couple of days. The property is exquisite and kept up to perfection-there truly is something for everyone here-horseback riding is closeby and the above mentioned scenic mountain areas which you can hike or tour.
