Had a phenomenal time. The resort was so great. The first reason I booked the resort because it was in such close proximity to the Ventana Canyon trail. Also close to Sabino Canyon trails. I was so pleasantly surprised to see the lovely way the architecture is integrated into the hillside. AND, they had this lovely nature trail explaining ALL that the Sonoran Desert has to offer by way of birds, mammals, reptiles, all plant species identified. This is such a plus that any eco-friendly traveler should consider staying here!

Was just in Tucson on a business trip and stayed at the Lowes Ventana Canyon resort. I was really looking forward to getting out of the zero degree Great Lakes tundra, mixing business with playing golf in sunny and 75* weather. As it turns out, the golf courses were the best element of LVC. Tom Fazio courses, with some spectacular views and excellent conditions and fast mini verde greens. The guys at the golf club were excellent.

That's the good news...

The resort was overbooked, and had to send some of the pre-registered guests to another nearby resort. (they might have gotten the better end of the deal if not for having to drive over to attend meetings and events at LVC) The rooms in many cases were not ready. The hotel itself looks spectacular on their website, especially the night time photos. It's spread out, (and I mean s p r e a d - o u t) in front of the Catalina mountains. You need to take a LONG hike to get to either the meeting rooms or the single restaurant that's located in the hotel. (there's another one that's part of the resort that's just outside the front doors.)

Here's a kind of unsettling concern when you first arrive at your door. Quite a few (the majority?) of the rooms have outside access, like the old drive up in front of your door motels. It was somewhat stressful first taking an elevator and following a long hallway to an exit door, then walking outside to your room. (at night) I gotta tell you, I was walking fast and my head was on a swivel. As the days/nights wore on, I became more comfortable doing it. (but not really) I certainly would not have allowed my wife to go it alone. Don't get the wrong impression, this place is certainly not in a high crime area, but hotels are known attractions for savvy thieves looking for opportunities to grab a swiss watch, wallet or purse.

When I got into my room, the first thing I tried to do was to call the front desk to see if they could switch me to an "inside entry" room...but the phone didn't work. (there was another one that did) They told me that they were overbooked and had nothing else, but maybe "tomorrow" they would. Eventually finding out that the place was overbooked, it really didn't open up until Friday night, and I was leaving very early Saturday morning. (BTW, the bed and shower were great.)

The batteries were dead on the remote. (twice-that's another story)

The Canyon restaurant for breakfast was like a 100 car pile up at 8 AM. Tables were empty, some were not bussed. People that had gotten there earlier and were on their way out said to skip the menu, as the kitchen was painfully slow and do the buffet if you wanted to get out of there within an hour. It was still about a 20-25 minute wait to get seated (there are NO other restaurants open for breakfast at this rather large resort, if you can believe it. There was a Starbucks stand in an alcove inside the restaurant that was obviously backed up too.) Buffet was fine, and the waitress we had on Thursday morning was making the most of a crappy situation.

Friday morning the restaurant was not jammed. Flying solo, I was able to get in quickly. I did the buffet again, not wanting to risk a long wait for the kitchen. It seemed the only thing that the waitresses were interested in following up after they saw you with your food, was to ask if you wanted Ketchup or Tobasco sauce! I had to flag down a different waitress to get a coffee refill. When I wanted to pay, (and not just sign the tab and bill it to my room) I virtually had to fire an aerial flare to get ANY waitress to take my bill and credit card. If they were not YOUR waitress and you happened to catch their eye, I swear two of them quickly turned away. Finally I snagged a waitress (not mine) and asked if she could please check me out. A few minutes later my Tobasco/Ketchup girl dropped off my check and card. I don't even remember if she thanked me for coming in.

Fortunately, my last interactions were with the guys at the bell stand who were very good and helpful.

Room Tip: Get an inside entry room.

Green Features: Arizona was experiencing one of the worst droughts in history. They have gigantic, overly large tubs. If you were inclined to actually take a bath, instead of a shower, it would have to easily take a couple hundred gallons of water!

Easy, smooth check in with a friendly front desk staff. Room was clean, bed was OH.SO.COMFY! The view from our canyon view room was beautiful! Bring the bubble bath for the HUGE tub! Great little staycation...far enough away, but just close enough. Will definitely stay here again.

I was very fortunate to stay at LVC. The staff was exceptional especially Peter who helped us store our bikes safely on site. Our room was very comfortable and offered a wonderful night's sleep. The meals i enjoyed on site were delicious but a little expensive. The location was perfect for access to Sabino Canyon. I would definitely stay here again.

I was here for a work function this past week. There seem to be a lot of over-the-top great review of this place. I cant believe some of these are real. This hotel has a 1970's look and feel and is constructed out of cheap cinderblock. Seriously. Look at the photos; it looks like a prison. It is dated and tired.

The hotel is in the outer suburbs of Tucson far from anything. It is a sprawling low rise. If you are in a distant room be prepared for a long hike through dark outdoor corridors like a motel. Many of my colleagues had zero views.

The main restaurant, the Flying V is a predictable steakhousy place that people over 70 like. The gym is circa 1985 with some newer pieces of equipment. The rooms are large but decorated in a predictable elderly women's version of fancy pants desert resort. The bathrooms have ridiculous large tubs (not super deep and awesome but perfectly square huge the size of a queen size mattress).

I have never stayed at a Loews before. Service was decent except in the restaurants. At breakfast one day there was a line of 20 waiting for table with empty table but a missing hostess.

At checkout there is a place to print your boarding pass (like there is in all good hotels). But unlike good hotels, they want to you pay $7.50 to sign on to the internet and another 25 cents for a piece of paper. The first 10 minutes of internet is free but you still need to be charged the minimum of $7.50. Sure. Let's see - on departure a guest is confronted with a last minute grab for cash. Sounds like a great customer experience process designed to leave the guests with fond memories of the hotel.

Loews is a beautiful property in Tucson. Nestled in the Catalina Foothills, the location is ideal for mountain vistas and casual hikes in tHe high desert. The public spaces are casually luxe, the facilities (pool, golf course, restaurants) are all top notch, and the rooms are well-appointed and eminently comfortable. The attentive and friendly service was consistent from the front desk to the housekeeping staff. Be sure to try the Canyon golf course, the spa therapeutic massage, and the trail to the waterfall - all are a special treat. You will love this resort and want to return often.

First impression is great the real results you will be disappointed with in many areas. I checked in as part of a conference on Tuesday Feb 24th. Friendly greeting and no delays checking in. The rooms are average, clean not much wow factor at all. Nice pillows. Nothing over the top as far as the rooms go.

My first problem was with the internet it's not robust at all. It was included with my room package but the signal is weak and they have at least 6 different wifi networks not a one works with your room number WIFI out side of your room, plan on playing network tennis if you're their for a business conference. Also not very many of the Staff even knows the passwords. Basic stuff if you ask me.

After a day or so I needed some laundry done. Dropped off one pair of Blue Jeans and one pair of dress pants and a casual shirt. Filled out the form and dropped the bag at the bell desk the next morning about 7:15 am. To be returned in my room by 5:pm the same day. I get done with my meeting all day and of course want to throw on my Jeans to dress down some. You'll never guess what happened....you're right - NO LAUNDRY in my room. I call the front desk and they are now looking for my laundry. The polite person on the phone said let me see where it is and we will call you back. less then 5 minutes later they call and say Mr. XXXXX your laundry will be done tomorrow at 5:00pm. I'm like really what happened to the $40.00 get your jeans washed and retuned the same day program. Of course no one could answer me until AJ called to tell me i'm not getting my jeans or any of my clothes because the vendor they choose to use is closed. Meanwhile i'm leaving the next day. They did offer to buy me a pair of jeans but this is the basics man! you've got to score hi in my book on basic services and you guys failed "F"

So the gal who was kind enough to help me told me don't worry I will call you tomorrow and we will get your clothes to you. She called me about 2:45pm, they had a big part of the day to track me down and get my dirty clothes back to me before i leave the property. NO the clothes never made it back to me on Thursday or Friday or Saturday. SO again AJ who's nice calls me now on Friday two days after my clothes were to be re-united with me and tells me "we are so so sorry and we will send your clothes to your house". I asked her if she can send them for Saturday delivery at this point and she said no problem. The delivery is now scheduled to show up at my house on Monday, March 2nd via UPS. They receive an "F" in the laundry department I gave them my clothes on the 24th of FEB and i hope i get them on March 2nd.

Some other note worthily issues are the breakfast wait in there cafe can be as much as 30 minutes so better give your self lots of time for breakfast.

My AT&T phone signal is not so good especially in the conference areas. Better at the pool.

Other then these issues which i consider basic it's s solid 6 out of 10 property but in my book disappointing for a Loews brand.

Room Tip: the rooms can be super far from the single bank of elevators.
