“Quiet Hotel at the Airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

Never heard a plane though the hotel is right next to the airport in Tucson. The room is actually a suite, 2 rooms with a door between the two. Great beds. Two TVs, a fridge, microwave. You get 2 warm choco chip cookies when you check in. Three floors with two all glass elevators. Has restaurant and bar at hotel. Have stayed at many Doubletree Hotels and this property is the oldest I have stayed in. I would stay here again as they usually have good deals. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Free shuttle to the airport.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the inner courtyard (pool, fountain, garden)

This is not the kind of place I was expecting to find close to an airport....but much better! This hotel has a very nice structure, with the rooms all around the swimming pool and an area where you can have a nap and enjoy the sun. My room was large and clean. Unfortunately the mattress was too soft for me, but someone else could have find it perfect. The service is good, the breakfast good and rich. This is the kind of place where you'd stay for many days having a nice vacation, rather than a place mostly for travellers that wait for their flight connection! Very very nice!

This hotel seems to be popular with the corporations. It was a mom and pop place a few years ago and the. Radisson bought it... Then early this year the Double Tree bought this place. A few years ago I staked here and we had wonderful sleep number beds but with the buyout they have been removed and replaced with pillow top beds. This hotel is being rennovated to a double tree hote so most of the rooms are being worked on and are in varrious states of repair. Although we are ok with our room , there are several wall outlets that do not work. Also, we had to find a trick to open the door to the room because between the loose striker on the door and the electronic key lock logic needing you to wait to a count of 5 before you try to open your door it made it challenging. This was the issue on a few doors ( changed rooms ... Same problem)

The room was clean and the pool and jacuzzi was good. There are dumpsters out back for all the renovation being done but they are out of the way. Two of the three elevators that we used do not have any A/c in them that work... Not even a fan.

BTW, bring a bottle opener with you and flatware if possible. Sure, you get a kitchenette but no plates, flatware, or bottle opener. The hotel is kind enough to sell you those things at their store.

I may give it another shot after the remodle as I have stayed in other Double Tree hotels that were in better condition.

OK, this hotel is one that Doubletree obviously bought from another chain and is in the process of converting it. They are going through some growing pains. As a Diamond HHonors member, I stay at Doubletrees and Hiltons often, so have a fairly large sample against which to compare.
First the pros:
- Nice staff, friendly at check-in and helpful throughout the stay;
- pretty interior courtyard with fountain, pool and hot tub;
- uber-convenient to the airport (as in right outside the airport exit);
- free drink at the bar for HHonors members, and a decent beer selection to boot;
- suite set-up is nice, with sofa, fridge, wetbar, etc.
Cons:
- clueless waitstaff at breakfast;
- breakfast in general: cold coffee, weak food choices, slow service;
- 6:30 am is NOT a good time to have the gardening staff use gas-powered leaf blowers!
- cleaning of the pool at 6:45 precluded a morning swim.
In general, I think this place will be a nice place to stay in about a year or so. That's when I'll try it again.
- tiny bathrooms, barely enough room to turn around

Room Tip: Ask for something on the 3rd floor, away from the bar/entrance.

Changed from the Holiday Inn. What a mistake. We were allowed to check in one hr early but that is the only thing we liked. Our room 125 was suppose to be newly renovated. The room odor was odd. Seems it went away when we turned off the air. With heat of over 100 we really needed it to run. The bath fan was very noisy. Twice the light in the bathroom blew out. It sounded like it was exploding each time. Needless to say, the toilet was next to the door, with a wall on one side and the tub on the other. I felt like I was in a small box. Unable to take a shower in the AM because it was dark in the "ROOM?" The couch in the living room was very hard. Room 125 is far away from the front desk. We walked through two courtyards and past the pool to get to the main desk to use the computer. We were unaware they did not have a breakfast either. Would have stayed in The Country Inn and Suites, The Hampton, etc if we knew all this. Will NEVER stay here again. Not worth the money or our time.

I recently spent a Saturday night at this hotel. I chose it based upon Trip Advisor reviews and proximity to the freeway. Overall, I was pleased and found it to be a good value. I was in Room 317 which is a bit of a hike from the lobby. The exterior hallways are a bit narrow which made getting the luggage cart by housekeeping's cart in the morning rather awkward. The room itself is nicely done with a Sleep Number bed which I hadn't used before. I found it to be just OK. The door to the room is glass with louvres, so sound insulation from the outside is not good. No issues with airplanes - just noisy kids playing in the courtyard, which is fairly large. The pool and jacuzzi are large and looked nice as well, though I didn't take advantage of them. Shopping and restaurants were only about a mile away. The hotel itself is clustered with some other hotels right near the entrance to the airport. Nothing special about the neighborhood, but no real complaints either. I didn't really notice the airport during my stay. Cleanliness of the room seemed OK, though the newer carpet did look dirty in a couple of spots. All in all, I was satisfied with the accommodations and would recommend the hotel. It's an older hotel, but the room renovations are nice.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the front half of the hotel or you will have a longish walk from the lobby.

Overall, Doubletree Suites Tucson Airport is a nice place to stay. The rooms are big with a nice mini bar area and family room. We stayed only for the night and was easy access to the airport and nearby casino. The only down fall is they do not offer the free buffet breakfast like other Doubletree's. Also the TV is a old tube style and was surprised about this. However the location, price and free WIFI overshadowed this.

Room Tip: Request for a upper level room with a small balcony.
