“Beautiful and unique”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

The pictures don't accurately give a description for how beautiful the landscaping, scenery, and building are. My husband and I decided to forgo the typical hotel and stay here while we were visiting family and we are so glad we did. There were delicious breakfasts including baked pears with cinnamon (something I've never had before and was such a treat), animals roaming through the property, and beautiful natural plants every where. It is such a unique getaway- we really felt like we were seeing Arizona at it's best. We stayed in their cheapest room and it was extremely roomy- had a little living room that overlooked a small watering pond that animals were drawn to. I can't recommend this place enough! We will be back if/when we come back to Tucson!

Room Tip: Our room was the cheapest and it was fantastic- I heard equally great things about the other rooms i...

We loved it here. We stayed in the Casita room which had its own spa and kitchen. We loved that it was close to Saguaro park so we could make it over there easily for sunrise photos. Breakfast was delicious and the hosts David and Rosemary are very nice. We checked out their other rooms as well and there is not a bad one in the place.

Our recent stay with David and Rosemary at their beautiful hacienda was a real treat. The home is in a peaceful setting in the desert with all the amenities. Our room was spacious, with a full kitchen, sitting area and small table in addition to the king size bed and bathroom. We had a patio with tables, chairs and a lounge, with a BBQ and access to a nice hot tub. A guided trail is close by to learn about the flora and fauna and David was full of great suggestions for things to do and see over a yummy breakfast each morning. A family of javalenas visited each morning as a special bonus. A very unique environment for any traveller and hosts to make you feel at home.

Our four night stay was in Rosa, a delightfully large room with king bed and cottage table and chairs beside a well stocked kitchenette and overlooking a desert vista. This beautifully furnished room included a TV area and bathroom with shower.
The mornings were exciting as the life of the desert was all around and from our comfortable porch we could observe jack rabbits, desert quail, a roadrunner, ground squirrels, and Javelinas galore....curious pig-like, hoofed animals (peccaries) which were greatly entertaining to watch. Close up photos were possible before they scampered off.
Only steps away was a desert trail to stroll around and discover more flora and fauna on our hosts' large property. An instruction booklet directed you to certain plants. From here we watched a fabulous sunset. Another night we looked up for shooting stars from the spa, and another evening were in awe of a dramatic lightning show of a distant desert storm. What a feast of an experience! We just loved it all! Thank you Rosemary, David and assistant Shanna for your dedication to your guests, fine breakfasts, helpful hints, phone access in an emergency and splendid company.

My husband surprised me with a "Stay-cation Getaway" and Hacienda del Desierto didn't let us down. The accommodations were clean, comfortable, and full of character. We stayed in the La Rosa Casita with amazing sunset views! David and Rosemary prepared a delicious breakfast for us. My husband loved David's granola-he even gave us the recipe. What I enjoyed the most was the peaceful and serene environment of the Hacienda del Desierto Bed and Breakfast.

As with many of the other reviews, we must begin by complimenting the owners David and Rosemary. They treated us, and all their guests as friends invited into their beautiful home. We spoke with David at some length before committing to a reservation. He communicated an obvious love of the desert, and the home he and his wife made in it. David described an available room with a pond (we prefer to think of it as a watering hole, sounds more out west) just outside the window. He told of the wildlife we could expect to see, as well as the possibility of coyote, and bobcat. We were sold. We booked two nights in early May. The accommodations were exceptional, far exceeding our expectations. We don’t make a habit of staying in B&B’s, but have stayed in enough to have some feel for the norm. Breakfasts in most B&B’s have some degree of standardization. Not so at the Hacienda. The breakfasts had many homemade gourmet items that were the perfect start to the day. David and Rosemary always joined the guests for breakfast, and showed a genuine interest in the plans for the day, offering advice and commentary when needed. We have the sense that everyone crossing the threshold at the Hacienda receives the same warm, welcoming treatment. By and large, most guests staying at the Hacienda as well as other types of lodging have a similar set of needs. Where should we go, what’s the best time to go, what’s the best way to get there, etc? What separates David and Rosemary from other lodge owners is the degree to which they are willing to go to help their guests. In our case, help was needed as the result of a car that decided it had had enough travel time under its belt. We decided that a sick automobile wasn’t going to interrupt our plans. We chose to rent a car while ours would be in the shop. We asked Rosemary if there was cab service in the area. She said yes, but it was extremely expensive, and then offered a ride to the rental agency. This was no trivial offering. Tucson is a very spread out town. Nothing seems to be close to anything else. The car rental agency was no exception. Again, David and Rosemary seemed happy to help. David and Rosemary receive high praise for the treatment of their guests, but we can’t leave Shanna out of the mix. Shanna takes care of the rooms, helps with the breakfasts and I’m sure performs many other unseen duties. She is another part of the machine that makes the Hacienda del Desierto work so well. We have friends and family in the Tucson area, and a standing offer for free lodging. It’s hard to beat free, but when we return to Tucson we will spend at least a couple of nights at the Hacienda.

This was a great discovery - although we weren't sure what to expect as we traversed the roads leading us to this fabulous location! Rosemary and David are very hospitable and make you feel right at home! The entire hacienda offers something for everyone - quiet patios are incorporated throughout the grounds with ample birds providing a musical production for your enjoyment. The suites are spacious and decorated in authentic Mexican colors and tiles and fully equipped for longer visits. This was the first time we visited the Hacienda with guests from Spain, however, it will not be our last! Many thanks to Rosemary and David for a delightful stay at such an enchanting facility.
