What can I say about this wonderful place that hasn't already been said? We chose this B&B after looking at some of the big resort hotels that had been recommended to us. Because we always check with tripadvisor, I was interested to see that every single resort had several negative reviews and many were of a common theme - always a bad sign in my opinion!
It caused us to review what it was we wanted for our vacation, and what kind of atmosphere we had hoped to experience. We have stayed in numerous bed and breakfast establishments over the years, both in North America and in Europe, so we are quite familiar with what to expect.
For this vacation, we had thought that a big resort with large grounds and lots of different activities in one place was what we wanted, but after reading the reviews and looking at the all the extra fees for things we knew we wouldn't be doing, we decided to look in a different direction.
Boy, did we make the right decision! As soon as I saw the photos for Hacienda del Desierto, I knew that this was the perfect place! Once I read all the outstanding reviews, I was even more convinced! We chose the suite that suited our needs best, and made our booking. We drove in from Phoenix, and after driving through what seemed like miles of dreary developments, the landscape became more and more beautiful and began to resemble the desert oasis we had hoped for. From the moment we turned in the drive leading to the Hacienda, everything was just breathtaking. Lovingly built, landscaped and decorated by David and Rosemary, this beautiful compound that has been their home for several decades is absolutely everything everyone says about it!
We stayed in the 'La Rosa' suite, with its king sized bed and pull down queen bed for our son. Its lovely patio has a seating area and a gas grill and a panoramic view of desert, birds, and other animals that come and go. The eating and seating area in the room was quite large, and there were books and magazines on the shelves. The main area of the Hacienda is stunning with its large fireplace, comfy chairs, books and movies to choose from, and lovely art and artifacts all over.
Breakfast brought a new culinary delight each day, along with hard-boiled eggs, turkey sausages, cereals, fruit, yogourt and freshly baked delicacies that changed every day! Delicious coffee, juices and a selection of teas were always on hand, and we had lovely conversations with other guests around the large dining table.
Rosemary and David are perfect hosts, who, along with their vast knowledge of the area, shared their history and anecdotes with such warmth and charm, we felt we had known them for a long time!
The Hacienda was perfectly positioned for all the attractions we had planned on seeing. It was lovely to wake up in the morning and just go for a stroll in the desert, watching all the different species of birds that come to eat at the numerous bird feeders positions around the grounds. The 'Javelinas', wild pigs that wander in and out, are such fun to watch, and there were some newborns at the time of our visit, which were incredibly cute!
Our room had every convenience, including toilettries, hairdryer, and lovely robes to put on in the morning or evening. A kitchenette with stovetop and microwave for the times when you didn't wish to dine out, complete with all the cooking and dining utensils. Did I mention that everything is SPOTLESSLY CLEAN?
Well, I could go on and on, but you really need only look at all the 'excellent' ratings to know that if you choose this place, you will be thrilled on all sorts of levels! It is everything an outstanding B&B should be and more! Thank you David and Rosemary, for an unforgettable experience!
All the suites are gorgeous!
