“Usually quite good - could be more consistent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2012

We've eaten at La Placita since it was opened by the previous owner. Over the years, both the food and the service have been somewhat inconsistent. Excellent on five visits, then only good on one visit. However, it has never been so poor that we haven't returned. More often than not we've really enjoyed our dining experience, as have our guests. Some reviewers have down rated the salsa, but we find that is it usually quite good - and I'm a bit of a salsa freak - Mexican food is a staple for us. We'll continue to eat at La Placita.

“Excellent food, great service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2012

My wife and I went to La Placita not sure what to find because of some of the ratings. I have to say it was a great experience. I had the Carne Con Chile (Chile Colorado) and it was excellent, some of the best I've had in Tucson. The flour tortillas served with it, along with the rice and beans, were great. My wife had a tamale and a shredded beef enchilada and was quite please. She rated the tamale as excellent because it had lots of flavor and very little masa (the way a tamale should be made). The margaritas (house) were good as well. I think they would have been better with a little range juice added. Overall, excellent.

“The Best Authentic Mexican Food in Tucson”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

We have been to this restaurant many times. The food is ALWAYS consistently good. If you like green chili or mole this is the place for you. La Placita's staff is friendly and good at suggestions if you have a hard time picking out one specific entree. Enjoy!

“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2011

We found this little place tucked into the back of a smaller plaza several years ago and we keep returning. The service was prompt and friendly. We were warmly greeted when we entered the restaurant. The chips and salsa arrived on the table as soon as we were seated. The guacamole was excellent. Members of our party had the cabrilla, the chicken taco salad, the carne seca burro (enchilada style) and the seafood soup. All were well prepared. The margaritas were quite good. Our water was served on request as it often is in this desert environment and our glasses were refilled as needed.

“Very Good Mexican Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2011

A small group of people attending a VA conference went to dinner at La Placita. We almost missed it and went to one of the more advertised places. We were so glad we went in. Excellent chips and salsa. Excellent margaritas. Best chile con carne verde two of us had ever had. Two others had enchiladas and raved. One person had the topopo salad and she said it was excellent. Great prices, and you didn't leave feeling stuffed.

After dinner, we walked through the little shops that surround the place. A very nice evening.
