“Too Bad Food Used To Be Fairly Good”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

Well, I am disappointed as the B-B-Q food at this restaurant used to be fairly good. Now it tastes like it's been sitting under the warming light all day or zapped in the microwave to heat it up. Sorry to see this happen in a city that lacks good B-B-Q restaurants.

“Yum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

They brought us a basket of chips to sample. Wonderful! We ordered some more. The brisket burgers are great. A nice change from a boring burger. Service was prompt and attentive.

“New 3-course meal a winner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2012

Dave’s new three course meals is an economical alternative to their usual fair. The chicken & rice soup is excellent (a meal in itself). I opted for the Georgia Pork and my wife had the ribs. For desert – bread pudding, of course. So, instead of having way too much to eat, we just had a little too much and the price is less than one of their usual entres. On the down side – no leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

“Good food with great service, decor at very reasonable price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2012

I've been to this Tucson location several times and service is always top notch (even if you are in a hurry and order at "to go" door). Now let's talk about food:

- Since this is a BBQ place, expect to have well prepared, award winning ribs and equally good beef brisket, sausage and even chicken is good (*but I wonder what a fool will try chicken, least tasty because of its nature of meat, in a BBQ place!) Ribs are ready to fall out from bones and in my opinion, it's a must to try here. I usually order a combo meal so that you can choose ribs plus other goodies described above.
- Dave's place is famous because of it's sauce (Rich and Sassy, original recipe is a must to try. It's totally different from other sweet BBQ sauce you have elsewhere). If you are dining at a table, they will offer all five different sauces and it's up to you to try everything in one sitting or not. Best of all, they never put any black, evil looking, sweet BBQ sauce over any meat (which spoils BBQ meat in most places) so that you will still have a chance to try meat before and after putting different sauce.
- I have been there 3-4 times but unfortunately I haven't got a chance to try their famous dessert because I'm so full because of big portions offered. Consider to skip appetizer if you must try dessert. Wedge fries, corns and more creative things like fried broccoli, onion strings are all tempting sides.
- If you are not a big eater, consider lunch menu; and try combo meal in smaller portion at half price. You will be surprised to see the bill is only a few dollars more than McDonald's combo meal and you are still getting delicious corn cake and toast plus a side of your choice.
- Finally it's a fun place to dine with lovely southern/forest theme with huge paper rolls on each table to enjoy BBQ. Service is always five star and only reason I couldn't give five star is I've tried better ribs at a much more expensive steak house. Still I like the Dave's sauce better.

* Sorry about my rant at chicken because I'm a bit ticked off at some reviewers blaming some fine dining restaurants, steakhouses and BBQ places for not offering simple chicken meal. I am not against chicken and in fact chick-fil-A is located next to this restaurant and you can enjoy wonderful chicken varieties there.

“Hope you are hungry!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2012

This is the place to go if you are hungry and don't worry about the calories. If you don't know Famous Daves, it is a BBQ place that specializes in ribs but has a very complete menu. This time our ribs were not falling off the bone like I would prefer but they were very meaty. They were good and the sauces they provide at the table are all great. The rib plate comes with corn on the cob, corn bread muffin, and two sides. You can order a big slab, half slab or 1/3 slab if you choose the ribs. Unless you are a big eater choose one size smaller than you think you can eat. All the sides and the freebies that come with the meal is a load of food! Everything we have had there is always good and about what you would expect from a rib joint. The service on this night was fast and efficient.
