“A Shining Starr!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

We enjoyed our 6 night stay at this well-run resort. We found the room to be in perfect condition, nicely renovated and quite large. This is a big property, but they have a couple of elevators which doesn't make the corridors quite as long. It's a ways from the center of Tucson, so a car is a necessity if you want to get around town. The employees are friendly and over all they made our stay a pleasure. We dined in both restaurants for dinner- one time each - and had a good meal, although not award winning. Breakfast was included in our room charge- we liked the option of ordering off of the menu and choosing a couple of items from the buffet. Again, not award winning, but better than average.
The hotel staff was friendly, warm and professional at all times. Any request was promptly responded to.
The tequila toast ceremony was fun, we enjoyed meeting many guests sitting outside in the evenings.
The negatives were that the spa hours didn't accommodate folks who were touring all day and wanted a massage after 5pm, the classes in the well designed exercise studio were not offered frequently enough and the swimming pools were not heated. I don't understand why.
We were told that the resort is scheduled to be renovated, although I thought it was well maintained and clearly up to Marriott standards.

We would consider staying here again, with a car.

Room Tip: Near the elevator and the rooms overlooking the city were great, although if you sleep with your win...

We have gone to the desert over spring break three out of the last five years. Twice to the JW Marriott, Desert Ridge, and the JW at Starr Pass. Both are outstanding resorts. We have found the service at all JW's to be superior, without being stuffy. As beautiful as the resorts are, they are kid friendly. If the service at all JW's rate an "A", Starr Pass was just a hair better at an "A+". The golf course was unbelieveable. It was difficult, but an absolute spectacular blend of challenge, vistas, and quality layout and bent grass greens! Yes, in the Tucson desert!

Room Tip: The rooms facing the pool, patio and golf course are super!

Outstanding property, with an amazing view of Tucson and the surrounding desert mountain setting. Room was very nicely appointed, we had a beautiful view of the golf course, and comfortable. Temperature allowed us to enjoy the evening on the patio and see the lights of the city come on as the sun set - just perfect. Don't miss your complimentary tequila shot every evening - OLE! I even had some private time with a coyote, at the driving range, early one morning.
Great staff, from the hotel to the golf course. Service oriented, and very friendly with a quick smile - enjoy!

Room Tip: South side has the views of the resort and golf course.

No better way to start the evening festivities; free Tequilla Toast each night in the open courtyard. Afterward, enjoy a beverage of your choosing and relax under the stars.
This is a sprawling resort, which is never overcrowded, even when a convention is in attendance.
Pros: swimming pools, lazy river, tasty dining options, comfy rooms
Cons: long walk from garage to hotel area, lazy river can be a little obnixious with loud families, non-resort dining is a few minute drive away

I recently attended a conference at this hotel and it is a great property. I do not understand the reviews stating the rooms are tired and old. My room was excellent and the furnishings were in great shape. The hallway carpeting is in need of cleaning, but the room was good. Extremely helpful and friendly staff.
A special recognition to the Audio/video team particularly Anthony. He assisted with every need and was always smiling. I would stay here again for business or leisure.

hotel was in need of maintenance & updating. Well used furniture and old paint. The hot banquet buffet food was cold and fair. Other Marriott resorts I find to be much better. The resort is very secluded. Nice pools.

We took 14 guys to Starr Pass for a 5 day golf trip from May 1 to May 5 and had a blast. The resort is beutiful, the staff freindly and helpful, rooms large and comfortable and finally the 3 nines were a pleasure to play.

This was our 6th annual trip and we have always gone to different places each year, but for the first time, everyone in the group voted to come back to Starr Pass next year.
