“High end specialty items that are hard to find in Tucson!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013 via mobile

I enjoy shopping at AJs. It reminds me of a fancier Sprouts, Whole Foods, or a small scale Wegmans.

I've had sandwiches at the deli and LOVED them, the sides are also delicious and fresh.

This is a store where you should go if you're looking for high end items that you would not be able to find at regular grocery stores, like Fry's or Safeway. The prices for common items found in regular stores are hugely marked up, so I wouldn't recommend buying those there.

There's a decent variety of ethnic foods and the meats and fish are fresh with a good selection. There was also a nice gluten free area with a ton products. The produce section was excellent, colorful carrots, different kinds of beets, and fancy fruit and veg.

This is a great place to buy items for a more upscale house party, lots of great gift ideas too. The store has low lighting and seems a bit dark in areas.

“Best sushi in town and great meat and fish too”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

Unlike a lot of people, I find the prices at AJ's too high for normal grocery shopping. But I definitely go there for fish and meat, which is the best in town. And there are great specialty items. But the only real bargain is the sushi, which is terrific, particularly during happy hour. The service can be surly (their original really great sushi chefs have both left, and IMHO, the remaining chefs are amateurs by comparison) but hey, it's not a fancy restaurant. It's a sushi bar in a grocery store, and the sushi is terrific.

“Good selections”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

It's an upscale grocery store, they do carry more stuff than regular stores, but very expensive. The sushi bar was good, but I think they were better before...

Fresh everything, best quality fantastic selection. Very attentive staff and excellent place to make your own salad or buy from the bakery, deli or sushi bar. Pricey but top quality.

“Very good selection - but not inexpensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

A J's is a great place for carry-out of a range of selections: cooked fish, side-dishes, salads, beer, wine, and dairy items. The quality is high - and the service is good. However, costs are on the high-end. Carry-out from A J's is more about convenience than about saving (compared to the option of a dine-in restaurant).
