Owner description: Voted BEST OF TUCSON every year since 2002 by readers of the Tucson Weekly, The Loft Cinema is a mission-driven, membership-supported nonprofit cinema that screens new independent American and foreign films and documentaries, along with classic art films, interactive events including a monthly short film contest, sing-a-longs and cult favorites. Patrons can enjoy beer, wine, pizza, tamales along with fantastic films. The main theatre seats 500 people and boasts the largest screen in Southern Arizona. In addition to our regular programming, The Loft hosts an annual international film festival in the fall and a free children's film festival every July. The Loft is a member of the Sundance Institute's Art House Project, based on our excellence of programming and service to the community. In 2012 The Loft was selected to be an official venue of the Sundance Film Festival in their Sundance USA program and we have hosted a screening direct from Sundance with the filmmakers every year since. The Loft is one of 7 American cinemas to be a collaborating partner with Film Forward: Advancing Cultural Dialogue in 2012, an honor The Loft also enjoyed in 2011.

“Tucson Nightlife!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Not your usual movie theater. Great for University students and locals to lay back for foreign, art, indie, documentary, and movies made by local up and coming students. A real rare gem in the desert.

“A Cinema To Be Experienced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

It is easy to understand why The Loft was again chosen by readers of the Tucson Weekly as the best of Tucsons movie theaters. You won't find the usual Hollywood big budget movies here. Instead, you will find a wonderful mix of "Indies", foreign, art, documentaries, etc. This is an older theater that is constantly upgrading it's physical being while continuing to provide thought provoking, controversial and generally tbe best of films that aren't shown in the major movie chains.
The Loft also has themed events such as horrors, classics, weirdies and Mother's Day and Father"s Day specials.
This review is not especially meant for people living in Tucson as they all know about The Loft. It is more of a suggestion for visitors to take some time while in Tucson and experience a true highlight of our city.
One down note about the theater is that some movies are shown in the intimate (think living room ) screening room which is up a flight of stairs. Check with the box office before going if this will pose a problem.

“A Rare Gem, with the Best Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

The Loft Cinema is the rarest breed of independent movie theaters. It's a non-profit organization staffed with knowledgeable folks that share a passion for independent films and hosting outstanding events that bring the film community in Tucson together. In addition to their regular screenings of hard-to-find indie films and documentaries, The Loft also hosts special events with the University of Arizona and other students from local film programs. My favorite event is the First Friday Shorts, which is a monthly "gong-show" mini film festival that anyone in the community can enter to win a $200 cash prize. At Mondo Mondays, you can get snarky and yell obscenities at the screen as they showcase some of the worst horror films in true MST3000 style. You really have to experience this place first hand to understand just how awesome it is. I even got to meet my favorite documentary film maker, Albert Maysles, at an event hosted at the Loft! The concession stand offers a variety of great snacks, from vegan cookies, beer and wine, candy, ice cream and Tucson's best pizza (Fresco, see my other reviews). If you're going on a date night, grab a bite to eat at Fronimos across the street, then settle in with your sweetie for a fun night at The Loft. A quick note: Screen #2 is not wheelchair accessible, but #1 and #3 are.
