My boyfriend and I stayed in one of the Presidential Jacuzzi suites for three nights. We checked in on Friday night, fairly late in the evening and stayed through Monday morning. We checked out just before 1 p.m. and were overall very satisfied with our experience. While the hotel buildings and grounds are somewhat of a mixed bag, we found our room to be clean, spacious and exactly what was presented on the web site. When we were checking in, the woman at the front desk was very helpful as was a maintenance man who showed us where to park and how to get to the stairwell, since during our stay the elevator in our tower wasn't working. Apparently, the Presidential Jacuzzi suites are in one of the newer buildings. The jacuzzi is in the bedroom, literally right next to the king size bed. While this is wonderful for couples, it would be less than ideal for families, business travelers, etc. Our room had two bathrooms and two balconies. We had a great view of the pool and downtown Tucson. Since it was a holiday weekend, there were lots of people out and about throughout the hotel. Despite that we found our room to be quiet and secure and did not have to wait at breakfast, in the restaurant or at the bar. It was great that breakfast is included as well as a couple drinks each night for happy hour. We missed happy hour the first two nights that we were there and when we mentioned this to our server at lunch, she arranged for us to be taken care of that night by another bartender. The service and the food in the restaurant were awesome! Admittedly, I did not have high expectations going into the restaurant, but the food was hot, delicious, well prepared and contained fresh ingredients. I would eat there again without a doubt. The location is super convenient to downtown Tucson, which is great, however it's proximity to the freeway takes away from what could be a more elegant feel. The hotel seems to be caught in between two worlds. It's definitely not your usual Motel 6 along the freeway. The beautiful pool, the amenities, the helpful staff and spacious suites all help to put the hotel into the category of much nicer resorts. The reduced room rates, the proximity to downtown and the freeway and the need for more attention to the buildings and grounds keep this hotel from meeting it's full potential. I would absolutely stay there again. I would be sure to ask for one of the rooms in the newer buildings, take advantage of breakfast and happy hour and be prepared to see police and homeless people in the parking lot from time to time. The Hotel Tucson is really just like the CIty of Tucson- it's an amazing place full of irony, breathtaking beauty and dirty worn down areas that could just use a little love and TLC.
The Presidential Jacuzzi suites are wonderful for couples, but since the jacuzzi is in the bedroom...
