Four of us, all intrepid amateur astronomers visited and stayed at Cat Mountain Lodge as part of an Astronomy trip to Arizona. I found this B & B on the internet and was attracted to the desert location and the fine personal amenities. All the arrangements were made over the phone with the delightful and ever so helpful Angel (a most fitting name).

The rooms are large and very tastefully appointed in a desert theme. The beds were very comfortable enabling a very restful and quiet sleep after the evenings activities.

Located next to the Lodge is the restaurant where breakfast was served. My friend is on a quest to find the quintessential Huevos Rancheros. He had theirs both mornings and declared them to be the best he had eaten, ever!! And he is renowned for his own production of this morning treat. They also serve dinner on weekends which is supposed to also be a real highly desired and sought after event.

In addition to the charming accommodation there is a roll off roof astronomical observatory with two pedestal mounted telescopes and a knowledgable guide to facilitate a nights observing. We spent two nights doing astrophotography and visually exploring the winter skies. A spectacular time for us. Rob was helpful beyond measure!! He brought over some of his own equipment to augment the ample equipment provided at the observatory. Rob went out of his way to make sure we had a wonderful experience.

I almost regret giving this review as I know it will make it more difficult to book it for myself, but Angel and staff deserve every success as a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Cat Mountain Lodge is already booked for us for next year. Four rooms for 4 couples for 5 nights. We more than doubled the length of our stay this year. Great rooms, a great observatory, great food, a quiet location and a helpful staff. We know a gem when we see it!

Only one year old, Cat Mt. Lodge is minutes away from Desert Museum and Tucson Mountain Park (with it's great trails and scenery). The rooms are attractive and comfortable. The spacious grounds are attractive and include a chimenea where we enjoyed an evening stick fire now and then.the owner is adding landscape features, sculpture. Lovely sunset sky, charming central courtyard, and friendly staff.
Food arrangements with nearby cafe add good value, and the food is hearty and tasty.
Highlight for us: on site OBSERVATORY where a knowledgable guide is available to help you study the heavens. One drawback: sound travels between some of the rooms. I understand they are working to improve this situation. Fortunately, they tend to attract quiet folk.

Our family (my sister the bride, her sons, godmother, fiance/now husband, my husband and I) lives in Florida. The groom's parents live in Tucson. My sister found this wonderful place and chose it as the location for their December 26th wedding. The lodge is beautiful!

The double-gated entrance looks like metal twigs that allows visibility into the courtyard while providing security and ease of mind. Once through the gates, the guest is met by the 5' walkway that traverses to the right and left, along the sides and across the back of the quaint desert courtyard. The limestone footpaths, bird feeders, and lovely fountain are perfect appointments to the simple but comforting atmosphere.

The desert garden courtyard was ideal for the ceremony: the guests stood and sat in the covered areas surrounding the courtyard while the wedding party and officiator stood by the lovely fountain located in one corner of the desert courtyard. The temperature was pleasant, the weather ideal, and everyone had an ideal "seat" to hear and see the ceremony. Afterwards, a reception was held in the nearby, easy to get to Coyote Pause Restaurant.

All four rooms are spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated! Each comes with its own sitting area, coffee maker, snacks, room frig and TV ideally positioned for viewing from both the sofa and bed. Some of the rooms are adjoining which made it particularly nice when communitcating and visiting with family. Double doors with glass inserts and screen doors enhance the feeling of spaciousness and the enjoyment of the dry, fresh air. Everything about the room "welcomes" each guest from the first step into the room.

The "family room" is accessible to all guests. The adobe style fireplace extends a warmth (on appropriate mornings) that is only exceeded by the aesthetic charm and beauty. The availability of the computer, reading materials, and variety of information about local attractions serve to extend the feeling of being welcomed by the delightfully charming and helpful innkeeper, Angel.

The physical attributes and conveniences of the lodge are only part of the success story. The other element is the innkeeper. Angel's hospitality is second to none. Each guest feels welcomed and "at home", and just as importantly, as if he or she is the only guest. Angel has a way of making each person feel special. She is amazing and an absolute delight.

The Coyote Pause is more than a place to eat. Miss Deborah and her staff cook up some unique and delicious dishes. A meal ticket for each day is included in the price of the room and well worth every penny. The portions are filling, the variety is more than ample, and you'll find the menu unlike any other. The comments are brief but only due to space and time limitations of the writer.

Lastly, the on-location shops provide for great shopping. The proximity to "Old Tucson" Studios, the Desert Museum and other local points of interest is very convenient. The addition of other atractions to the lodge (you'll have to visit to find out) provide more reasons for this writer and her family to visit Angel, Miss Deborah, and the Cat Mountain Lodge. My husband and I just loved it at Cat Mountain Lodge. Check in and check out were quick and easy. We stayed in the Ranch room which was spacious and decorated in a western theme. There are only a few rooms available and they all open onto a cute open air cactus garden. It was so nice and quiet. Our room had a mini fridge and a basket for us with complimentary water and snacks. Angel the manager, helped us out by getting a case of water for us, picking up an attractions pass and printing out directions to the places we expressed interest in - she was an asset.
The common room is beautifully appointed and has a computer with free internet access 24/7, besides the availability in your room. This Lodge really tries hard to support a natural organic life style with their collection of water runoff, sustainability, organic products - all very impressive.
When you walk out of the lodge, you are right there in the desert. I saw quail, rabbits and deer. Beautiful sunsets! They have a cute sculptured sitting area for guests as well with white festive lighting.
Included in the price of your stay would be a meal ticket for each day to use at breakfast or lunch at the Coyote Pause Cafe next door. My husband and I had breakfast there each day and everything was delicious. It is decorated so cute. Our waitress was one of the friendliest, kindest woman I've ever met. There is no need to drive anywhere else for breakfast.
This is the perfect place to stay if you want to see things on the western side of Tucson. The AZ Sonora Desert Mus, Old Tucson Studio, Gates Pass, Tucson Mtn and Saguaro Nat'l Parks, White Dove of the Desert are all within just a few miles. Next door are also some mini shops with a nice variety of merchandise - you can do all your gift shoppping here.
This place was wonderful and we look forward to staying here again. If I had to be picky to find anything negative, the only things I would say would be that no conditioner or lotion were provided and that it was difficult reading in the room - a good reading lamp either there or the common area near a chair would be nice. But these are so minor compared to the overall wondeful feeling to the place. You can tell it is still so new. The owner has done a great job!
