“Quiet retreat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2012

Incredibly peaceful stay at the Crickethead-- only sounds were birds and coyotes! Walls are thick so you can't hear your neighbors, bed comfortable, lovely decor and fluffy towels. The hosts are friendly and interesting and we enjoyed the breakfast conversations with them and other guests, even though we're not usually B&B/morning people. Many outdoor areas to sit and relax, a fridge for guest use, and a nearby Safeway for snacks and beer. Affordable too, unlike a lot of the places in the Tucson area. Wish we had stayed more than two nights!

If you are a world traveler or just world minded and love nature, this is an ideal place for you. Hosts are amazing with firm knowledge of area and events while location is simply incomparable. Watch javalinas eat as you sip your morning coffee, observe birds, listen to coyotes..

We were looking for a desert adventure and also had a cultural experience. The hosts,
Mike and Wayan are friendly, engaging and very accommodating. The rooms were comfy and breakfasts were yummy and filled with entertaining conversation. Lots of desert wildlife - with the desert and the Saguaro National Park right out your door! Crickethead Inn is a wonderful, unique place. We are from northern Minnesota and would stay here again in a flash. Thank you, Mike and Wayan, and best wishes on your yearly pilgrimages to Indonesia!

This is my favorite place on Earth. If you like quiet, desert, cacti, nice people, and good food, stay here. This place has a lot of "soul" and is one-of-a-kind. When I close my eyes at work, I imagine myself here.

Room Tip: All rooms are nice, but the "guest house" rooms are incredible.

This is one of the most unique places we've ever been. We came after dark after driving through the desert on the outskirts of Saguaro National Park and when Wayan opened the door to greet us, we were both stunned and delighted by what awaited us. This place reflects both their love of the Sonoran desert and the tropics of Indonesia. It is like entering another world and Mike and Wayan invite you to come in and explore.

The room we had was large and quite comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious. You can see the birds and other wildlife through any window, and if you want to get closer you can go out on the patio. Mike and Wayan are very interesting and they have wide interests which results in lively conversations. Their knowledge of textiles is quite amazing.

If you are looking for a retreat as well as a place to rest your head, Crickethead Inn is the place to go. I highly recommend it.

"You live here now." Mike's words were not empty. Mornings with Wayan and Mike, during which we discussed trips to Bali, how old Saguaro cacti get, and life in general were intimate and warm. My girlfriend and I used Crickethead Inn as a jumping off point for Saguaro National Park, literally next door, and our Tucson-area adventures. Our red brick cottage was the epitome of genteel rusticity. Be advised: This place is not for those who want fresh paint, maximum-bandwidth wifi, and room service. If you're prepared to dial it down, listen to the desert avian life, and do a little reflecting, then it may well be. When Wayan told me, in response to my question, that about 60% of guests are return-customers, I was not surprised. We will stay with them again next time we're in the area.

It was with anticipation and expectation as we traveled down the one lane unpaved desert road to the Crickethead Inn. This was our third visit over the years. We looked for birds and wildlife and observed the quiet beauty of the desert as we approached the Inn.

Mike warmly greeted us, and then took us to our room. The room was clean with an earthy and comfortable feel. The decor spoke of Mike's and Wayan's yearly sojourns to Bali. As we retired for the evening we were serenaded by the coyotes and their pups with yips and howls.

During our stay we hiked the property and followed a desert wash, watched for birds and wildlife from the patio, and relaxed in the quietude of the desert.

Part of the experience was the opportunity to visit with our hosts who have broad interests. Our conversations were rich and inviting.

It is important to note that a stay at the Crickethead Inn is a unique experience to be enjoyed for all that it is.

We look forward to our next stay sometime in the future when we once again visit Arizona.

Thank you Mike and Wayan for being such wonderful hosts.
