“Incredible diversity of experience and beautiful settings in the Saguro National Park”

While everyone knows about the TVGR horseback riding programs for the beginner and experienced rider- I want to tell you about the hidden gems. When at the ranch, try a moderately strenuous mountain hike. The guides are friendly and talkative about the route and will tailor the hike to the participants. I have been going to the ranch for over 10 years and I now hike more than I ride horses. It is a great workout and different way to see the dessert.

Another fantastic non horseback riding gem is the tennis. One of my favorite things is to play tennis in the morning with the pro- who often plays classical music in the backgound during warmups- or even lively jazz in the late afternoon before watering time. You can always find a serious game or friendly doubles match.

Also- not to be missed- are the breakfast rides and Cottonwood Grove luncheon picnic (TVGR also has dinner cookouts with live country music). When attending these events- enjoy the serenity of the wind blowing through the cottonwoods and make sure to indulge in the homemade chili- cheddar jalapeño corn bread muffins, cactus cookies at lunch; and for the breakfast rides enjoy the ranch scrambled eggs, hot trail-strength coffee and hot off the griddle blueberry pancakes (or chocolate chip ones for the kids) made by Bob Cote himself.

Finally- you cannot miss the Prickly Pear Margarita or other purely medicinal cocktails at the “Dog House” after your full Arizona day. Even more special is to take your libation on to the deck to watch the beautiful Arizona sunset or to come back after dinner and enjoy a fire and watch the brilliance of the stars. The TVGR staff if also the nicest around and if there is anything thing that they can do make your stay more enjoyable then just ask.

My family travels frequently around the world. In fact, in the last year we have been to Puerto Rico, Disney World, Paris, South Africa, Jamaica, New York, the Southeastern US, and Tanque Verde Ranch. While all of these trips were enjoyable, Tanque Verde Ranch was the only place we reserved our next stay before we departed. The relaxed family environment made for a unique experience. We met people (employees and other guests) from all over the country with whom we will remain in contact. We rode horses all day each of the 8 days we were at the ranch, taking lessons, walk rides, lope rides and all day rides. The wranglers and horses were incredible. Our daughter was very fearful of horses when we arrived and was loping with gusto by trips end. In fact, she wishes tho take lessons and continue riding at home. This turnaround was due to the quality of the progams offered at the ranch. In addition to the riding, the hiking and other activities which we participated in were top notch. Finally, I must say the accomodations and dining were fantastic. The food was abundant and delicious. Our experience was so pleasant we will be returning with family next month!

my wife and i just returned from 2 nights at tanque verde ranch... i must admit it is a nice place..! The views are amazing and the sunsets are perfect ! we went so my wife could ride all day, wich she did and she enjoyed it... my (our) only quibble is the return for the nightly rate.. - at 500 bux a night its at the top end.. ((which is okay if you receive your moneys worth...)) in this instance we thought the food was a little on the average side. we had dinner in the main dining room on one of our nights, and it was very average. over cooked chicken and pathetic (yes pathetic!) salad displays left a sour taste in our mouths. 500 a night for this..?? i would think not ! - everyone on our table of 12 was of the same opinion.. infact some people made verbal complaints to staff which were ignored. The second night we attended the cook out which was ok-ish.. not fantastic ! -
the big question - would i return... no, probably not.... - i would look to other ranches and see what feedback they have...
cheers

Thank you for your feedback, and please let us apologize that your food experience was not up to expectations! We just introduced a soup and salad bar at dinner, in hopes that it will allow our guests to customize their dinner salad. Guests have commented to us that at dinner they are still full from the generous lunch buffet, and would prefer a customized salad option. We are gathering feedback on it right now, to determine what guests would like to see as options on the salad bar, and we will adjust accordingly. Thanks for visiting and for giving us some food for thought.
Sincerely,
Gus

My family and I visited the Tanque Verde Ranch Valentine's Day weekend and we had an amazing time. The property is beautiful and the rooms are very nice - as was all of the staff. I can't recommend it highly enough. We just wish that we could've stayed for a few more days! Our daughter is 9 and she loved the children's program - she cried the day we left because she didn't want to leave and come back home! If you go, make sure you take advantage of the breakfast ride - it was so much fun and the breakfast was fantastic. Can't wait to go back again.

So glad you enjoyed your stay! It is fun watching the kids join the program and make friends, and after less than 24 hours, the parents can't get them out of the program because they are so happy with their newfound friends! And the breakfast ride is the signature event, all guests love this experience! Thanks for coming and hope to see you again.
Sincerely,
Gus

This is one of the neatest places to stay in Tucson. We have lived in Tucson for 20 years and have stayed at most of the resorts. We finally stayed at the Tanque Verde Ranch for the first time this month. It was so unique and fun! The grounds are absolutely beautiful and they have the most horses of any guest/dude ranch in the state of Arizona. Not sure how many were there but at least 100! It was a sight to behold. There is a fishing pond and a cowboy cookout area. The restaurant was excellent. The room was one of the original rooms and it was so charming. The breakfast was phenomenal. I can't say enough good things about this place.

We are Snowbird residents about 5 miles from the ranch and love the lunch buffets there. We also went to the Wednesday night cookout the other night and loved it. The campfires were super, the food was ample and marvelous, and the singing cowboy was "Tex Ritter reincarnated". Very attentive staff and the ranch guest folks were friendly and cheery! Fantastic. Don't miss it. There's a steak fry chuckwagon do on Saturday nights which is equally fun. And the Sunday buffet is one of the best in town.

So glad you enjoyed the BBQ! And now we have a way of making it even more memorable, as guests can take a 1 1/2 hour sunset ride, followed by the outdoor BBQ with Western entertainment. This package has proven to be unforgettable, and something that all our guests are very exited to take advantage of, a true Western/Arizona experience! Thanks for coming, hope to see you again soon!
Sincerely,
Gus

We just returned from our stay at the Ranch with our 9 year old daughters. This was our best family vacation ever. Our room was large and comfortable, the food was plentiful and the staff went out of their way to accomodate out requests and made us feel at home. The kids program was fantastic and our daughters were busy with fun activiites (mainly riding) from 8 AM - 3:30 and collapsed in bed every night. I enjoyed the daily lessons tailored from Basic to Intermediate and had a blast on the lope rides. We met so many people from around the world and had the best time sharing stories and becoming friends. If you are not a horse rider there are plenty of other activities to keep you busy, but by and far this is a horse lovers dream vacation. We will make this our yearly tradition.

Thanks for your comments, we are especially excited about the positive changes in our kids program! The feedback has been terrific, and we love the fact that parents feel comfortable leaving their children in our kids program, knowing they are having a wonderful experience, so parents can also have some vacation time to do what they would like! A true vacation for everyone, and thanks for coming to visit!
Sincerely,
Gus
