“Heaven in the desert!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2014

I stayed here 19 years ago and wanted to come back. It is a perfect location. Dave gives you the feeling of not only being a guest but staying there as a friend. The breakfast in his personal dining room is absolutely great. There are those little things which makes the stay perfect - a microwave and a small kitchen in the room (water, microwave popcorn and a lot of snacks provided in the room and in the public area) the tons of towels, the little private terrace with a mexican fireplace - and: the outstanding location in the middle of the desert. You can watch a lot of animals there (in the evening a coyote passed by at the hot tub area), see the beautiful sky with the stars at night, the sunsets are amazing - WONDERFUL! And thank you Dave!

I guess I’ll just pile on here with another five star review for Dave’s little gem in the desert, Casa Tierra. He says he’s been at it for 15 years . . . and he’s really good at it by now. He’s a retired mining engineer who’s worked all over the world, so I guess it’s no surprise that the place operates so smoothly, is so well designed, and syncs so perfectly and unpretentiously with the desert that surrounds it.
The grounds could be part of the Saguaro park that is a stone’s throw away. You can enter your room from the desert, through your private patio, which is open to all the desert has to offer, but then you realize that an engineer runs the place when you open the super-secure, snug fitting, industrial screen door that keeps those wonderful desert critters from infiltrating the house.
The house, which you barely notice as you approach it in your vehicle because it merges so discreetly with its surroundings, gets increasingly civilized as you go from the outer adobe walls, into the open central atrium public area, and finally into Dave’s kitchen and dining area for the not-to-be-missed breakfasts.
You don’t even have to do any planning besides getting yourself to Casa Tierra. Just get up in the morning, have breakfast served elegantly to you, follow Dave’s recommendations for what to do with your day, then be back in time to watch the sun set from the hot tub.

Peaceful setting, quaint rooms with unlimited snacks (yogurt, fruit, granola bar) and a gourmet breakfast- this place is perfect! I spend two nights here with my family in two rooms and was very happy. This B&B is off the beaten path and feels a million miles away from the rest of the world.

My husband and I enjoyed two wonderful days and nights at this lovely B&B. It's located in a beautiful setting, just outside Tucson--down the road from the Saguaro National Park and the Desert Museum (both excellent places to check out). It's an adobe-style, hacienda building with lots of nooks and crannies (with beautiful architectural elements and lush greenery) for relaxing. A hot tub and star-gazing are available for guests. Dave is a gracious host and gourmet cook, so you can expect great conversation and 5-star breakfasts. We will definitely be back.

What a wonderful relaxing place to stay. Anyone wanting to be right in the desert, amidst the cactus, the stunning landscape, the night sky and wild life, but still have comfort, look no further. Plus its right on the edge of Saguaro West and by the Desert Museum.
Dave has done a great job in creating a peaceful haven. The inner courtyard is private, and a relaxing place to sit and read or have a drink. The rooms also have their own private patios. There is a comfy lounge, even a mini gym.
The rooms are well equipped, everything has been thought out, a I liked the idea of the mini kitchen. Have never seen so many towels to use in a bathroom.
Plenty of snacks, fruit and drinks to nibble on at any time.
Then there were the breakfasts! A refreshing change not to have the usual bacon and eggs.
We were treated to warm banana bread, savoury polenta, cactus shaped corn bread, then the piece de resistance, raspberry bread pudding, which was beyond words, as well as lashings of fresh fruit, juice, tea, coffee etc. Table tastefully decorated which added to the ambience.
Dave is a very interesting, well travelled host. Long may he stay there.
Well done, the place is a credit to you.

As many other reviews have stated, this place is just perfect for a relaxing stay in the desert. Right next to te national park and the desert museum, the location is just right for getting out and exploring the area.
Dave is a gracious host, serving up wonderful breakfasts and lots of good advise on what to do and where to go.
The rooms are beautiful. we spent each evening on the patio watching the moon rise above the mountains and drinking wine. What more could you ask for?

Room Tip: Each room has its own patio and faces the mountains so you can't go wrong.

The location which is close to the park is outstanding for the setting which makes you feel you already int he park. Since it is on the unpaved road the views are outstanding. The attention to detail of his decorations and the inner courtyard offers a really quiet place to relax.
What makes this bed and breakfast even more unique are the masterful breakfasts which are definitely a cut above other bed and breakfasts in the Tucson area.
