“amazing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

just south of Tucson, this mission is an amazing structure and completely worth the drive. This can be a fairly short trip, but check out the gift shop which has lovely and interesting artwork for sale. The Church itself is amazing - a must see.

“Wonderful example of American Rococo architecture”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

Truly historic churches are alot less common in the US than the Old World. This mission is a stunning exception with beautifully executed architectural and artistic details. The docent led tour was informative, but as expected well sanitized of anything controversial (there are alot of politics behind the Spanish Mission movement and the rival Catholic factions, you are not going to hear too much about that here). The site is an easy 10 minute drive from downtown Tucson, definitely worth the trip, and the price of free (dontations accepted) cannot be beat!

“Very humbling and beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

What a wonderful site. A must see when in Tucson. The detail and historical significance will take your breath away. The mission is located on Native American land so if you're lucky, the locals usually serve Fry Bread...a must try. With either refried beans & the trimmings or sweetened with powered sugar, you'll love this tasty treat as you stroll the grounds and soak in this historical masterpiece.

“The White Dove of the Desert”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

San Xavier Del Bac is the finest example of a historic mission in AZ. Be sure to get a guided tour if available. The real interest is in the interplay between Catholicism and the native Tohono O' Odham culture: "God is in the details" . A knowledgeable guide will really enhance your visit. This is an active church and a an active restoration. Which means it is a living entity and not just a time capsule. There are a number of shops on the mission grounds were native arts and crafts can be purchased. There were food vendors on site selling fry bread and indian tacos.
