Some locals refer to the mission as "the white dove in the desert". To visit Tucson and not explore the church and the surrounding area, is to miss some of the essence of the place and the culture. It was beautiful and inspiring when we first saw it back in the 1950's, and now, with recent renovations, it is more meaningful that ever. There must be millions of pictures taken of this mission, and every serious photographer should be there early in the morning, or later in the afternoon. A short drive south-west from central Tucson is all that is required to see this inspiring landmark.
