“Really interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2014

i didnt know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised with the varied offerings and many docents stationed throughout the museum. Lunch at the foodcourt was delicious. They even have free sunscreen in the restrooms. Nice touch!

“Always a treat if you love our desert creatures!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2014

The displays are above average and the care and thought that goes into them is superb. Animals are beautifully displayed and the aviary is a wonder! I try to go back at LEAST once a month.

“The best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2014

THis has everything -- the best desert landscape, the best animals, the best exhibits, the best rocks....very nice restaurant and cafe. It is worth a trip to Tucson by itself. Walk further to the cafe and restaurant and avoid Phoebe's Cafe, which isnt very good.

“Make a whole day of it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

I recommend getting an early start. When we arrived we were greeted by a volunteer holding an owl. She was very knowledgeable about the owl and answered all our questions. No one is allowed to touch it but to be so close to such a beautiful creature really set the tone for the day. From there we started walking around to see the rest of the animals most of which were out and moving around. The paths are nice and wide and for the most part covered by shrubs. Only one part of the Desert Museum is really exposed to the sun. About 10 AM, with the help of more volunteers, they have a raptor show. The best spots are near the front or back end of the ropes. The volunteers place bits of food on some adjacent shrubs to which the raptors fly. They do it on both sides but the middle is not quite as good as the ends to get photos…at least on the day I went. Also, keep in mind if taking photos they will turn out better if the sun is to your back as you face the bird.
After the raptor show we saw more animals, then took in a reptile show which was a nice break from the heat of the day. We tried out the restaurant and were not disappointed in the food. The Patty Melt and Pizza were our foods of choice. We also took in the afternoon raptor show in which they showcase different birds including a family of hawks…very unusual!
Other things of note, there is a small shop only open for about 4 hours at which they serve ice cream. Some of the restrooms provide sunscreen!

Loved this museum. Well laid out and informative. The raptor display was quite something. Will definitely visit again.
