I travel every week on business and although I typically stay at a Hilton property, I decided to stay here after a previous good experience (pleasure trip, friends' wedding). Oh my! The first room I had smelled like a dirty ash tray. The housekeeper (who was very kind and accommodating) sprayed some air freshner around with no improvement. Also....moldy bathroom and stained carpet. So, I requested a new room (again, very accommodating and friendly). The new room was exactly the same....cigarette smell, moldy bathroom and stained carpet. Alas, no more rooms available. Also, there is some horrendous noise that sounds like an industrial dishwasher....the gentleman at the front desk had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned that. Don't stay here....except for location you can't be sure what you'll get.

This outwardly lovely hotel in Providence is so badly managed that it boggles the mind. My hotel door wouldn't open because the key recognition device battery was run down, then they couldn't find the recharger, and had to break into the room. Then, the mini bar was only 1/3 stocked, and they tried to charge me for the things that were missing. The restaurant was grievously understaffed, leaving me and my companion waiting interminably. They screwed up the charges several times. I don't know what's happening at this Westin, but it's bad news.....

The Westin's downtown location is fantastic. It has a walkway to the mall and is convenient to all that downtown Providence has to offer. That is really the only good thing I can say about it. It was dirty and poorly maintained. There was mold growing in our shower, stains all over the rugs in our room and throughout the property, the hot tub smelled like mold, the sauna and the locker room showers were broken, among other things. The front desk was poorly staffed, creating long wait times. We were charged 100s of dollars for mini bar items we didn't consume. Sadly, I could say more negative things, but this gives the gist. Definitely not worth the money.

We decided to attend a play, shop and explore a city close enough for us all to meet for our annual "girls night out". Our dream of being in the heart of the city with lots do to, all in easy walking distance and treated grandly was created by the Westin Hotel and staff. From the minute we got there with cocktails in the lobby and our beautiful, comfortable room overlooking the city, we knew we would be back again next year.
Thanks for the special treatment, the excitement of the city and the fabulous feeling of the evening. It was hard to leave the hotel, but we managed.
