Los Angeles, CA

Got to Providence after flying from Los Angeles to Boston, then rented a car for the drive.
Arrived during a festival with street closures. The closed streets surrounded the hotel. We were on the phone for about an hour and a half. I am not exaggerating on this. Getting wrong directions. Being told to turn down streets that were blocked. Told to get back on the freeway east for two miles and turn around only to find the exit blocked. Told to double park on a crowded street and walk to the valet. Told to find a place to park on the street and walk in (there were no spaces as the festival was in full swing). Hotel had no clue how to guide guests to the hotel. Finally I asked if I could pull into a garage behind the hotel where the valets park the cars. Was told this was OK and that a valet would meet us. Parking attendant told me to leave or she would be calling the police. A valet showed up and told me to go back and turn down some streets that were blocked. Finally asked the valet if he could just take my car. We got our own bags out and schlepped them down the stairs and around the corner. When we arrived the requested room type was not available. I was travelling with my 15 year old daughter and needed two queens. Requested a rollaway, but it never arrived. We found ourselves unable to relax in the space after our traffic ordeal and dealings with surly uninformed staff. Requested to speak with a manager on duty, but contact was not forthcoming. Used the toilet once and it blocked up. This was the last straw. We made reservations at a nearby hotel. They wanted us to wait to speak with a manager before checking out, but the manager was unavailable. I finally said "We're tired, we're hungry and we just want to leave." Someone went back to the manager and they let us go. Nobody was there to take our bags to the valet. Valet offered no assistance with loading the trunk.

Arrived at our replacement hotel where three separate bellmen asked if they could be of assistance with our bags. Once checked in we could feel the tension go away.

Cancelled my reservation at this place for July and September. Will never return.

Had an excellent experience at the Renaissance.

Thank you for allowing me to speak with you on the telephone following your comments on Trip Advisor.

The Providence Biltmore is located in the heart of downcity Providence, walking distance from historic locations, shopping, universities, and great restaurants. This location also offers guests beautiful views of WaterFire and unlimited access to local festivals throughout the year. During festivals the Biltmore staff, including the valet works very hard to assist guests in routing around blocked streets and arrive at the hotel without hassle.

We truly are the hotel of choice for travelers staying in Providence, Rhode Island. Our passion for excellence is unwavering. Your experience was not the norm, as we clearly focus on guest satisfaction and exceeding guest expectations.

I have shared your comments with the valet manager so he may follow up with his team.

I hope you will take me up on my offer to return to our hotel where you will surly experience the Grande Dame of Providence for the exceptional guest service and attention to detail that it is known for.

Please feel free to contact me directly either by email at mallen@providencebiltmore.com or my direct telephone number which is 401-455-3010 if you would like to speak with me directly or need any further assistance with your next reservation at the Providence Biltmore.

“Wonderful Wedding”

The Providence Biltmore

New Hampshire

My wife's cousin got married there and I was so impressed on the service that I felt inclined to write something.

From the moment we arrived, it seemed that everyone who worked there's job was to attend to my needs, without standing over me. I needed to leave to attend the service, but was blocked in. "No problem, sir. I'll have these cars moved right away." was the answer I got. And they did it within a few minutes.

During the wedding the wait staff was fantastic! One of the children at our table lost a shoe during the night and the wait staff (who wasn't waiting on our table) jumped in looking for the shoe. When someone at our table had a question, they would turn around and make eye contact with the wait staff who promptly came over and answered their questions. But with that being said, I never felt like someone was standing over us waiting for them to be needed. It was a perfect level of service for my wife and I. And the food was excellent!

If I had to share any type of negative experience - I would say that the drinks at the bar are very small and weren't that strong. The only other thing that I could say negatively was the room service breakfast we had -- not worth the cost. It was pretty good - but $15 pancakes didn't taste like $15 pancakes.

Once we are able to save up a little more money, we are definitely going back to stay for a long weekend!

Thank you for your kind remarks about your recent positive stay at Providence Biltmore. Out staff is committed to excellence and I am very pleased you experienced just that.

Additionally, our valet team works hard in order to accommodate every guests needs. Each day and night they are ready to receive and park guests cars no matter what time it is. We have a 24 hour valet service, making it easier for each and every guest.

We look forward to your return to the wonderful Providence Biltmore. “Just what a city center hotel should be”

The Providence Biltmore

Jun 10, 2008

Given the bad reviews earlier in the year, we didn't know what to expect from the Biltmore, but I'm happy to add my vote to the more recent positive comments. The large rooms have a wonderful classic feel, but with all mod cons! We appreciated the extra closet space. The hotel is in pleasant walking distance of Brown and RISD, shoppng, food choices and most of Providence, including the train station. Because we came by train but had some appointments out of town, we rented a car for two of our three days -- the Avis agency is next door.

We thought we got a great rate on the room, but this was nullified by the exhorbitant charges for parking and internet access. The parking was particularly chaotic, with long waits for attendants to take possession of the car on arrival and to retrieve it when needed. We will make alternative arrangements to avoid these rip-offs, if, as we hope, we stay at this hotel in the future.

My husband and son surprised me with a stay at the Providence Biltmore and brunch in the hotel restaurant. It was great. We really enjoyed our stay. The suite was perfect for the three of us and the price was reasonable. Our only concern was the shower in the bath flooded the bathroom floor. The food was excellent and the wait staff were friendly, attentive and made us feel very special. We would go back.
