Stayed at Cady House following research of previous Trip Advisor comments. We feel this is very good value accomodation. We wanted good location in Providence and access to the interstate to help touring the area. Accomodation is very well placed in the middle of the historic district and walkable to downtown. Pretty easy to get on and off the main Interstate 195. Good choice of eating places, mainly, aimed at the students from the campus close by, and some more upmarket places if that's what you want. Cady House is quirky, first impressions are it is a bit worn around the edges. The style of the furnishing reflects the owners' own travels in Europe and Africa. The dogs although no trouble are evident if that bothers you. Our room was large comfortable clean and had an enormous bathroom. The fire station behind the property could be intrusive but wasn't a big problem for us. To us Anna was down to earth but friendly and helpful. Breakfast was coffee, cereals, juice, breads and cheese - ample and tasty.

Anna is neither rude nor a prickly cactus - she's just not bubbly. During our stay we had several nice conversations with her, but don't look for her to overwhelm you with "wonderful" and "isn't that special?" You don't have to be bubbly to be nice.

The room was clean, wonderfully furnished, and comfortable. The bathroom in our room was huge and had an old clawfooted bathtub that my wife enjoyed. The shower was also big, had a nice showerhead and lots of water pressure. Our room had a wall A/C that worked perfectly.

Yeah, the breakfast isn't that hot, but it was something and a good way to start the day.

You definitely get more than what you pay for at Cady House.

“Some Qualms About Cady House”

Cady House Bed and Breakfast

Jun 27, 2007

Chose this B&B on the recommendation of a friend, a Providence native who himself stayed there at the height of his home-remodeling project.

The Good:

It's extremely well-located, just blocks from Brown University, and in an easily walked neighborhood. The house is a lovely old place with all the quirky charm you'd expect from a circa-1830s house. Our room was very nice, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom clean. And the price -- $120 for a double -- was a good value.

The Bad:

Another reviewer said hostess Anna was rude. I would concur, although I don't think her behavior is intentionally rude per se; rather, she's simply a human cactus -- ultra-prickly, no soft spots. We arrived on a sweltering day, and she had some trouble activating the room's air conditioner unit. When I asked for a fan instead, all I got was a very curt: "No. No fan."

Also, other reviewers have raved about the breakfast at Cady House, but we didn't have that experience: some cereal, juice, nice fruit, breads and some muffins set out. But scrambled eggs? Homemade coffee cake? Uh, no. Also, the Cady House Web site says guests with departures earlier than the usual breakfast hours (8 - 10 am) will be accommodated. When I told Anna we had to be at the airport long before that, however, she allowed as how we might as well just eat at the airport. Only when I pressed the issue, asking if I could come downstairs and scrounge up a bowl of cereal for myself, did she relent.

As noted in other reviews, be advised that the absence of locking doors meant we were unable to secure our room from the outside. (From inside, there's a sliding latch.)

Finally, we noticed lots of street noise during our two nights -- especially motorcycles. This doesn't particularly bother me, but I offer it as an observation for those who care about the amount of ambient noise.

Would we stay here again? Probably -- but not without first comparing Cady House to other available B&Bs and nearby hotels.

We just stayed at the Cady House, and we would go back again, without a doubt. Anna was a pleasant and accomodating hostess. The room itself was very large and comfortable, and although there were other houseguests, we didn't hear anything. The Cady house provides parking spots, since you are not permitted to park on the street overnight. We do not eat big breakfasts, so the fresh fruit, cereal, warm bread and apple cinnamon cake hit the spot. Just enough food and coffee/tea to get us going in the morning! Two beautiful and friendly dogs on site, and they were such a pleasure to be around. The owners did ask us if it was alright if the dogs stopped in for breakfast prior to letting them come over to us, and ofcourse we loved meeting them. Very well kept inn for a very good price. Thank you, Anna!

My wife and I stayed one night in July of 2005 en route to a Canadian vacation.

First, the positive comments: Very nice place, extremely large bathroom. Nice location.

Next, the negative: One of the previous reviewers indicated how much he enjoyed the Innkeeper. Our experience was different - likely due to our Innkeeper was a different person (as ours was a lady, not a man as in the previous review - this is not a gender comment, only letting the reader know that is how we know our innkeeper was a different one). To put it in the kindest words, one would say that her manner was just very direct. However, since she is in the hospitality industry, it would be morely accurately termed, she was rude.
