My purpose in visiting Providence was business. Although, having stayed at this location, I would certainly bring the family back and stay. This location was perfect for me to walk to and from the RI Convention Center (~1 mile) each day. I rented a car because I had business in Warwick earlier in the week. Although, other than getting to the airport, only used the car once during the week to go sightseeing and get lost (sometimes a good thing).
The hotel is very nice, with comfortable beds. As other reviews point out, the hotel is much older. This is not a bad thing. It actually adds charm and character to the architecture. It also means thicker insulated walls and less sound intrusion from neighbors. Internet service was excellent. Easy to hook up and very fast.
The bar and restaurant were a little too upscale for me. However, they appeared to be very elegant with professional looking wait staff. The fitness room is split into two rooms. The room with cardio equipment has a view of the indoor pool. Has treadmills, bikes, and eliptical machines. The room with the resistance equipment is small, but has a decent set of free weights and universal machines.
If you can book at the Marriott downtown for under 100 per night, you are getting a good deal.
