“Reeks of Cigrette smoke”

Great location. Place reeked of tobacco smoke start to finnish. One realizes how we are all spoiled by not being exposed to smoke anywhere anymore. I guess if you were a smoker you might feel welcome here. I wouldn't recommend it otherwise. On a week long college trip of the northeast it was our most expensive and least pleasant night.

I you like to feel like you are imposing on a weird relative when you travel, this B & B is the place for you. After the owner greeted us in pjs, slippers, and a robe at 7pm, she ordered me to sign the guestbook and to do it "properly" and not "mess it up" so that everyone else would know how to do it. After asking us what we wanted to drink for breakfast, she whipped out a map and told us where to eat and where to park the next day. My husband and I were trying to be friendly to her, but seriously, all we wanted to do was get away. She was so bossy! This was followed by a 5 minute instructional lesson on "How to Lock/Unlock the Door" and a not-so-veiled threat that if someone let her dog out, the dog would die and so would the person who let her out.

Finally, my husband and I were shown to our room. The room was ok--it wasn't tastfully decorated or anything, but it was clean and uncluttered. Then she pointed to an extra door in the room that was locked from our side and sharply told us, "Don't get curious!" She explained that the door led to a hall where she kept a light on for other people staying here and she had put something along the bottom of the door to block out the light--if we opened the door, we wouldn't be able to put the light blocker back. This would be all well and good except for the fact that the door was an accordian door with a hinge in the middle so it really didn't matter that the bottom was blocked since light shined in the crack and right onto the bed all night long.

As other reviewers said, breakfast was sub par--just warmed bread, a hunk of not good cheese, and a store bought coffee cake- and we were not even greated with a "good morning" or "how did you sleep." Needless to say, my husband and I quickly ate our cold breakfast and got out of there. She was still wearing her pjs and robe. Don't stay here!!! Worst B&B experience ever. She should pay people to stay with her.

“Not Given what We Paid For, and Unfriendly Owner”

I should have read the comments from past guests. The owner was unfriendly and ungracious. Breakfast was coffee/tea, rolls, butter, jam and a slab of cheese, even though B&B ad states "A Continental Plus breakfast", and the Ledbetter website states "A Generous Breakfast". If you choose to go there, don't expect anything more. Also, when we reserved a room, she said it was $100 for a room with the bathroom down the hall that you shared with other guests, or $115 for a room with a private bath. We booked the room with private bath, but she gave us a room without one - it was in the hallway. Our room was large but included an ergometer and other exercise equipment (which she told us not to touch) as well as numerous boxes, tables, bookshelves, dressers against the walls. It looked more like a storage room. In the morning at breakfast, other guests inquired about booking a room for two days in 2007. The owner spoke in a very brusque tone and told them they had to stay for at least 3 days because it was parents week, saying, "and I need the money - take it or leave it." We understand this is her business, but that is no way to speak to guests. We do not recommend her establishment because we didn't get what we were promised and paid for, - a room with private bath, and an actual breakfast -- and the owner was extremely unwelcoming and discourteous. Her attitude truly spoiled our short stay in Providence.

“Rooming House”

C. C. Ledbetter's

Not really a B&B. This is a rooming house that serves week old bread in the morning. The owner smokes in the house, which is a problem. The rooms are filled with the owner's personal items and photos. The mattess was most likely decades old. The owner seems put-out by having to have people stay in her home, although she becomes quite friendly if you take the time to break through, which is not really a guest's job in the first place. This is not really a deal in terms of price either. She overcharged me 10% from her quoted price. I would only go back if there were no other alternatives.

This B&B has a great location, but the breakfast is minimal and the innkeeper brusque and unfriendly. Until I read the other comments, I was wondering what I had done to offend her. To be charitable, CC is competent and tries to do what is required. But it all seems to go against her grain and one almost feels that by staying with her, one is imposing.
