Owner description: WaterFire Providence is an independent, non-profit arts organization whose mission is to inspire Providence and its visitors by revitalizing the urban experience, fostering community engagement and creatively transforming the city by presenting WaterFire for all to enjoy. This award-winning sculpture by Barnaby Evans installed on the three rivers of downtown Providence, has been praised by Rhode Island residents and international visitors alike as a powerful work of art and a moving symbol of Providence’s renaissance. WaterFire’s over eighty sparkling bonfires, the fragrant scent of aromatic wood smoke, the flickering firelight on the arched bridges, the silhouettes of the firetenders passing by the flames, the torch-lit vessels traveling down the river, and the enchanting music from around the world engage all the senses and emotions of those who stroll the paths of Waterplace Park. WaterFire has captured the imagination of over ten million visitors, bringing life to downtown, and revitalizing Rhode Island’s capital city.

“Low tech--high entertainment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

Hard to describe what this is all about. There is really nothing to do but watch the water/fire/people. Lovely music with quite a ritual surrounding the lighting of the water torches.
Walking along the river we passed under a bridge. To my delight there was a chandelier hanging along the walkway under the bridge. Magical. If you need fast action sports or high tech entertainment this may not be for you. Old fashioned, free, in a lovely setting. Perfect for a warm summer eve.

“I go every year”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2013

It's especially nice to go with a significant other or even alone. Such a calm, intimate experience with the candles and relaxing music and people everywhere all walking around, very nice. There plenty of food vendors and little places to shop, there's also portable bathrooms.

“Water fire in RI”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013

Hauntingly beautiful and serene. In spite of the large number of people there, all were subdued and peaceful due in part to the lovely music played. Go on a chilly night, find a spot to sit and be comfortable and just take in the peacefulness. Under a. Ridge is a special place to be. Would recommend this event when in RI.

Every City should have a show as impressive as WaterFire! Is you visit providence and missed the show. Well, you were never there! a very must see, sponsored free of charge. Take a gondola ride, and view this beautifully designed and architecturally preserved city. Hurray for the City's Redevelopment Authority for preserving the beautify of the past. Thats what makes your city proud and unique to visit.

“A "Must Do" experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2013

Waterfire is a unique Providence experience that rightfully draws crowds from well beyond Rhode Island. The artistic combination of floating bonfires on the Providence River from late spring to mid-fall and especially on a summer night is something that everyone should experience at least once in their life . . . . but going once will likely bring you back again and again.

It is both relaxing yet exciting with the crackling fires and classical music juxtaposed with the excited crowds and many food vendors.

This work of art is intended to bring the crowds back to downtown ("down city"?) Providence and it does that as thousands show up even when the weather isn't the best.

Kudos to the many volunteers who keep the fires burning and the hosts who gladly give directions to the out of towners.
