“Disappointed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 days ago NEW via mobile

Disappointed all the way around. Arrived around 5 pm after a long drive. All I wanted was a cup of coffee. The have a restaurant and a bar yet couldn't find me a cup of coffee. I asked the lady at the front desk if I could at least get creamer and Splenda, and i would settle for the coffee in the room. She couldn't even find that. She could have tried just a little harder. There was a restaurant just a few feet away from her.

I understand the history of the hotel but, for the price of the rooms, they could maintain and update just a little. We were in room 204. The bed was so uncomfortable. The worst I had on my entire trip this week. The bathroom door does not lock. The lock is there, it just doesn't work. The tub looks awesome. Deep soaker tub and jets. Turn on the jets and tons of crap came out; dirt and bugs. Uugg! Tried the shower. Water never got past like warm and the shower curtain pretty much wraps around you. This didn't leave any room to actually take a shower.

We have been to the Stanley 3 times now. The service is amazing. The hotel is old but it has every convince. The history and the haunting is what the hotel is known for the movie the Shinning was filmed in part here as well as dumb and dumber. It is a beautiful setting that allows for relaxation and rest

This was a great place to stay for a romantic and fun getaway. My wife and I were celebrating our 5 anniversary and staying here made it so special. If you are going to the Stanley Hotel for ghost hunting stay in the hotel. If you want to do a little ghost hunting for but want a romantic bed and breakfast feel stay at the Lodge. Midge was a great host and The Table the five course meal they serve was probably the best meal and wine pairing I have ever had. Thank you to the great staff. Also the tours and whatnot cannot go into the Lodge so you have more privacy.

A beautiful hotel in a magnificent location. The staff were really great. Much of the hotel is old and charming, but features in the room are just old. A bit more attention to detail would be go a long way. The whiskey bar was amazing and Jimmy the consummate host. I would visit the hotel just to enjoy the bar. One note is that the bar stopped serving any food after 10pm and the snack bar is also closed, so plan accordingly. For the value, this is a great place to stay...the best in Estes Park.

on 3/19 we have stayed one night and I was shocked how dusty the room was especially under the bed - it seems as they didn't clean under the beds fro months or yrs. The sower had mold on the ceiling, also the gym was not "state of the art" as they claim on the site. Too expensive for what you get. I did complain about the dust and but nothing was done.

Room Tip: Historic hotel

We booked two rooms at the Stanley in Estes Park for my daughter and her two teens and two youngsters and me, and we had a thoroughly pleasant time. Our rooms were not ready when we checked in, but the restaurant and bar were pleasant to wait in with root beer floats for the kids and a cocktail for the adults. The food was excellent for both dinner and breakfast--and about what you would expect to pay for a delicious meal. One third floor room overlooked the parking lot and was noisy; the other room was next to the infamous Room 217 and we noticed camera flashes during the night. But 215 had a nice view of the mountains and a tub/shower.
You should be aware that some people go to the Stanley hoping for paranormal experiences or ghosts, and we did see some frightened young adults in the hallways. Let your imagination go wild, if that's your thing. We didn't want to scare our young kids, so we kept it low key. However, if you are adventurous and not too susceptible, you should see 'The Shining' before staying at the Stanley to get all the drink and menu references!

The Stanley is a beautiful hotel but it was very loud. We stayed in room 221 and one of the nights they were having casino night in the MacGregor Ballroom, it was impossible to to get any rest, we couldn't even hear our television. Also, all day and night you can hear everything that goes on in the halls and up and down the stairs, doors slamming. If it weren't for that, it was a great place to stay. Luckily, we brought a sound machine with us that plays white noise. We had to crank it up all the way but it did help.

Room Tip: Staying in one of their condos may be more peaceful. Definitely take the time to walk around and en...

Dear Trotrus,

Thank you for posting your review of your recent stay. We're thrilled to hear that you admired our beautiful hotel grounds and lobby, and enjoyed walking aroundthe property. We are sincerely sorry that the casino night event made an otherwise great stay "noisy". We can admit that our main hotel is a bit noisy especially compared to a modern day hotel but we also feel it's pretty quiet for a 106 year old hotel! :-) Despite this we recognize that you did not fully enjoy your stay and we would love the opportunity to make up for it. Please reach out to me at your convenience and I would be grateful for the chance to invite you back to have a more restful lodging experience. Certainly the stunning Overlook condos offer a great restful alternative to the main building as does our 40 room luxury bed and breakfast The Lodge designed as a smaller version of the main building and located right next door; both options offer the same experience with a bit of quiet luxury. Thank you again for your review. I look forward to welcoming you back again soon!

Best regards,
David Ciani
