“Beautiful hotel in bad shape”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

I had so many problems with my room they switched my room (expensive king w/mountain view)and I had more problems with that one. My 1st room temperature never went below 79 degrees with no heat on, a portable ac, a portable fan, the windows open and calling the front desk 3 times in 2 days. It was Dec and snowing. Also the shower/tub water would only run either freezing or scalding hot water. The staff was always very nice and gave me a $50 dining room credit and moved my room (but not to a lake view as promised). This room had no heat at (never got above 63), the tub wouldn't drain during a shower, the phone didn't work and the flags constantly hit the window all night. I couldn't leave fast enough. I did notice every time I went to the front desk they were apologizing to the people in front of me for something wrong in their room. The hot is beautiful but the owners need to put more money into the upkeep of the hotel rooms instead of things like addings sculptures to the sculpture garden. I filled out the survey from the hotel and have yet to hear anything. The experience was so disappointing.

Absolutely breath taking views from most rooms. We try to come here every year for our 16yr old granddaughter. She loves ghosthunting. We always request the fourth floor in hopes of seeing a ghost.. The rooms are in character for a historic hotel and the beds are comfortable. We always take the ghost hunting tours and the tour guides are delightful. We have never encountered anything supernatural but its fun no the less. The restaurant is pricey the the breakfast is well worth the price. i think nex year we will try to come during the spring months as Estes Park is loaded with wonderful and unique gift shops.

We had a wonderful getaway for the night from Denver on the 6th. easy drive and great weather. Checked in and we ended up being in 219 right next door to where Stephen King was inspired to write The Shining. We had a great dinner at the Whiskey Bar and snuggled in for the night watching The Shining. Next day we did the Stanley hotel tour, was awesome! Our tour guide Sean was great he was animated and gave us such a great tour! We then had a little time to walk around town, did some shopping and grabbed some lunch. It's a must do!

Room Tip: Ask for the king suite great views, comfortable bed!

A wonderful and historic hotel with beautiful views. The hotel was decorated for Christmas and very busy with a wedding and company party. The food and service were excellent by both the company party buffet and the next morning at the restaurant for breakfast. Laurel and Patrick were very attentive to our food sensitivities and did their best to get us gluten-free and dairy-free things to eat at dinner and for breakfast. The room was large with a very comfortable bed and my Wife liked the pillow. I loved the shower and big flat-screen TV. We are so glad that we had our wedding there and now have two beautiful girls all these years later. Great memories and lots of fun for both of us!

Room Tip: They don't have a fridge in the room and the thermostat was hard to keep from getting too hot.

You will appreciate your small standard room after you take the hotel history tour. Much of the decor is attributed to Stephen King as he had the place appointed in time period wall paper and furnishings after he began his work on The Shining in room 217. The rooms could use a little updating but it might take away from some of the charm. Rooms are tight but cozy and our closet was huge. Bathroom was spotless and adequate. We were here in mid-December and we still had to keep both windows wide open and ceiling fan on to keep the room comfortable (it was in the 20's at night even). There are lots of events here and the halls got a little noisy at night. The Cascades restaurant and whiskey bar were top-notch (see review) and the overall service of the hotel staff was friendly. Great porch to sit on and enjoy a coffee and and an awesome view of Long's Peak. There is a working Stanley Steamer in the lobby and a funcioning old Otis elevator. Neat place and worth a look to experience the Stanley - we had a wonderful time here.

Great staff, great room, with a great view. The lobby is most impressive. The 100 year old elevator is magnificent. The room was very nice, especiallt the linens. The bed was very comfortable. Had breakfast and they were very gracious in giving me what changes I wanted. The food was excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view room.

We stayed in The Lodge where the innkeeper accommodated all our needs. Convenient complimentary breakfast was perfect. The restaurant in the hotel had delicious dishes, and helpful waitresses. Sara at the Amethyst spa was fantastic. It's a short walk down the hill to a grocery/liquor store, fast food, and quaint shops of Estes Park. The shuttle buses come right to the back door if you don't/can't walk. Negatives were; SMALL rooms, no a/c, the outdoor dining food disappointed, drinks at the bar are pricey, and it's quite a jaunt from the Denver airport-roads were still washed out in August.

Room Tip: Suites in The Lodge, on the upper floor would be larger and quieter.
